Well it has been a crazy nine months but it was worth every minute of it. Our daughter has finally arrived!!
We were scheduled to be induced on Monday, January 21, 2013 at our local hospital. We arrived at 8 in the morning and eager to get the ball rolling. Brittney and I were so excited we cried on the way to the hospital. This was the last ride the two of us were going to take before we became a family of three. It was a little overwhelming.
Brittney’s contractions were in full force before the afternoon and we expect our daughter to come before 2 but we did not know that was just the start of a long day. The pain got so crazy we decided to get the epidural. As a husband that was one of the hardest things I have ever had to witness.
After Brittney was numb her contractions eased off and the doctor came in and told us that Brittney had not progressed and that we were going to have to have a C-Section.
At 9:19 we met our beautiful daughter Karsyn Leigh Funderburke. She weighed in at 7lbs and 9oz. She was 20 inches long. I was one happy daddy as I was the first one to hold her. Brittney and I immediately started to cry once we heard her for the first time.
As far as my first week of being a parent is concerned, it has been a very educational experience. My baby is still alive so I must be doing something right. It is amazing that once they put that baby in your arms a switch comes on and you instantly go into “dad mode”.
I was already a swaddling master so I just had to practice changing diapers and burping. I have not got much sleep but my daughter and I have watched a lot of late night episodes of Family Guy.
All I have to say is that I am very thankful for family and friends who have come to help my wife and I out. You guys are such a blessing and We love you all.
#5 Have a baby- Completed on 01/21/2013
Massive congrats! She is adorable. Your birth story sounds a lot like mine with my first. It’s shocking how painful it is x
That was a long day but it was so worth it.
How is your wife is she recovering? yes it is worth it 🙂 babies and children are such a blessing.
She had bounced back pretty quick. She still has a little but of pain but she can do a little more everyday. Yesterday she was so excited to be able to bend down and tie her shoes.
🙂
Look at that little face!!!! Congrats to you and the Mrs!
Thanks. We are so in love.
I am so happy for you!! Congratulations, she is absolutely gorgeous! It has been a long wait for the precious little one. Enjoy her while she is still so little
Yea it has been a long wait. She is perfect but Daddy could use a little more sleep.
In the wise words of Darius Rucker “It wont be like this for long” – good song, look it up 🙂
I agree. I love that song.
