So this past weekend I decided to start a new hobby. I wanted to try cycling cause I heard that it is a great way to not only get a workout but to explore the world around you. I have never been one to like riding a bike but I figured I needed to shake up my workout routine and do something I have never done before. After all, I am not training for a race at the moment so now I am finally starting to remember what running for fun is like again.
So I got a great deal on a used bike from one of my coworkers and decided that this past Sunday morning was going to be my first ride. I got my helmet and backpack carrying my water and a protein bar cause I did not know how long I was going to be gone. I also grabbed my cell phone incase I bit off a little more than I could chew and needed my wife to come and pick me up somewhere. safety first!
I hopped on my bike and started to go. The road was clear which is very strange for where we live. There is usually a lot of traffic. I must have won the lottery, cause no cars were around. I was actually enjoying my first ride until I got to my first hill. I struggled up that hill with sweat beads dripping off my face and my heart beating very fast. I stayed consistent and made it but I was tired. Not tired enough to turn back.
I turned down another road that was mostly down hill. It was a nice break and I even had time to snap a nice picture of the beautiful morning. It was nice. Soon I turned right on the next road and it was mostly flat and I was pushing myself to ride faster. A few cars came around the corner and passed me finally. They seemed like they did not mind sharing the road.
Once I finally reached to road the led to my neighborhood, my butt was killing me cause of the bike seat. So I made a mental note that this seat needs to be replaced with one that is more tolerable for my ass. Once I reached my house I felt more accomplished and made sure to post my first bike ride all over the net. I was very proud of my 8.40 mile ride.
So now that I have completed my first cycle trip I can look forward to my next one, which will be soon.
