Well I did it! I never thought in a million years I would but with some encouragement from my friends and family I signed up for The Crossfit Open! I have to say that am scared to find out what type of crazy workout is in store for me next Friday for the next five weeks but I am also very excited. The choice was not taken lightly. Here are the main reason why I chose to register.
To physically see where I am. Every now and then you need to check and see what areas you need to work on most. I know a few but my hope for after the open is to zero in on some things I never knew I need help with. I know I still have trouble with a 95 lb snatch but one day I will get there.
To compete. I have never done a competition like this before. Please remember I am a runner and only have run races. Never have I did any other type of physical competition. So it will interesting to see what kind of scores I get.
To keep a sense of community. My little crossfit gym is amazing. At CrossfitMNC I have made more friends in the one year I have been there than any other gym or activity I have done, including running. The push me and encourage me and some days I leave hurting and swearing that I will never come back but I always do. The coaches are there 24 hours to answer questions, provide advice, and to help you reach those fitness goals. Yes I am excited to do the open but I am more excited to do it with my friends.
It might seem crazy to some people why I do Crossfit but those who question it have never done it. To me its my little one hour escape three times a week and it gives this dad a chance to hang out with other adults and not have to worry about the day-to-day stuff. Also I think I look amazing while doing power cleans…just saying.
So wish me luck next Friday as I start The Crossfit Open. I am not looking to go The Crossfit Games by any means but I am going to have fun cause that’s really what it is all about. Throwing weight and having a blast!
