Football, Splash Pads, & Life Lessons

Let me start by saying that I am sorry for not following up on this past weeks blogs. Things have been nuts around the house and and trying to find the time to blog and update you guys has become difficult but I will talk about that later.

Picking up from my previous entry, the past few weeks we were grieving the loss of Tanner and things are still not the same. You would think with all the losses that my family and I have had that we would be come pros with dealing with grief but it still is easy and I have come to the conclusion that it never will be.

Many people know that my relationship with my brother has never been the best and I am not going into much detail about it but just know that we did finally have a talk and decided that we don’t always have to hang out or see each other every day. I can work with this. After mending some fences he invited me to the open preseason Panther game and you know I love my Carolina Panthers!

I had a great time. Too much of a great time and maybe should have never drank that 6th beer. Anyways, I was really glad to spend some time with him and enjoy some football also.

Finally the weekend came along and we had another birthday party to go to. This time it was for my other niece Charlee as it was her birthday. I can’t believe my niece is going to be in 1st grade this year! Where has the time gone?

The party was fun and even I got on the splash pad and got soaked. My girls had a blast and it was great to be around family and friends.

One thing that I never stop doing is learning. I always try to learn life lessons and sometimes I learn thing even when I don’t want to. I have learned that no matter what happens to just forgive and move on. That does not mean keeping the person around but to not let that hurt control your everyday life. Just let it go. Now sometimes it is harder then others and I struggle myself sometimes but you need to let it go.

The other lesson I learned was to stay out of God’s business and other people’s business and just worry about your business. This has helped me at work. When something does not go my way I have to tell myself I cannot control other people and what they do. I can only control what I do and how I react. This is more then likely my biggest lesson to learn.

I have a lot of cool things happening on the blog soon. A lot of fun things with the kids that need a post so stay tuned.

Killer Week

This week has been crazy. Last week was crazy. I think I have come to the reality that vacation is in my near future. Work and kids have seemed to have swamped my life and is just enough to keep in purgatory.

Work has been insane. Magazines are keeping me busy and my reps always need me. It is a good thing to busy in this day and age. I know a lot of people who have easy jobs until their organization gets smart and cuts them off and now they are struggling to find employment. I actual just got the biggest section of the year put on my lap this week. Living Here is the biggest section The Charlotte Observer publishes. It has one 300 advertisers in it so I have the lucky job to coordinate this publication with only three months of experience. If that is not trust I have no idea what is. It is a great opportunity but I am scared out of my mind. I have a lot of people putting their faith in me to no screw this up.

My wife is a superstar. I can’t ever say that enough. She is like super mom. I really don’t know how she does it and she works full time. The past few weeks we have ad a run of bad luck it you could say that. My truck broke down. The freezer went out and most not the meat that was in there had thawed out so I had to toss it. Then the battery in the truck died so I had to replace it. It has just been one thing after the other.

This weekend we are planning to get away. We have not had a day trip in a couple of weeks so we decided to head up to Lake Lure. We have never been there and are looking forward to exploring and will make a great blog entry next week.

Hope you all have a great Thursday and I will be back on Monday with another #MedalMonday so take care.

Date Night, Cookouts, And Ripped Pants

This weekend was very busy as all our weekends are. It seems that my wife and I are busier then ever. We spend most of our weekends trying to hurry and get the laundry and cleaning done on Saturday morning so we can have fun a relax the rest of the time off we have together. This weekend was no different.

My wife had her company BBQ on Saturday at one of her doctors horse farms. It was a heart little BBQ complete with games, kegs of beer, pony rides, and lots of food. Naturally I headed to the keg while the kids played games. We mingled through the crowd. I talked to an old classmate from high school for a bit. It was nice. It was also VERY HOT. As the sweat started to bleed through my shirt I knew it was time to leave. I think the girls had fun.

After we got home and got the chance to dry off, my SIL E came over and watched the kids for us so my wife and I could go out and have a nice dinner just the two of us.

It was nice to get away with my love and stuff our faces with chicken, steak, and chocolate cake. It was not on my approved eating clean diet but well worth it.

Sunday was a blur. We went to the Another Broken Egg Cafe and had a great breakfast that reminded me a lot of our Charleston trip. Then we went home where the kids took a long nap, my went to the grocery store, and we relaxed at the pool for a couple of hours.

After getting the kids settled for dinner my wife asked me to pick up some Sabor Latin Street Grill for dinner so I headed up to Wesley Chapel. Once I got our food and started to climb in my truck I heard a rip. I looked down and my shorts had ripped all the way down the seam of the crotch.

Besides ripping my pants my weekend was great. I would be lying if I said that has never happened to me before. I hope your weekend was as fun and crazy as mine was.

Happy Thursday!

#Merica- The American 4 Miler Recap

So I know I am a little late with this recap as I usually get these out a couple of days after the race but things have been crazy. I have to say that this race was a great event and an excellent “welcome back to running” race.

I had not properly prepared myself for this race. This meaning that I have focused more on crossfit then anything else. Soon I realized that I had a race in two weeks and I have not ran since Mother’s Day. Crazy right? So going into this event I was worried that I was going to loose everything I have worked so hard to earn, which is a little scary.

The night before I did my usually laying out of the race clothes, made sure I had the address in my phone, my alarm was set, and I had a good plan for breakfast in the morning. I went to bed feeling more prepared and was ready to get my run on.

The next morning, I woke up to the sound of my alarm clock and I got up and as soon as I stood up out of bed I felt it. It was like a huge pain shooting in my knee. I knew this was not good and that I was in trouble. I came downstairs after getting dressed and looked in my gym bag for my ace wrap. Now I was starting to get nervous as I had no clue how this race was going to go. I had to finish cause there was a pretty sweet medal to get.

So I drove to the race with my knee on my mind and hoping that I could pull this race off. So when I got there i walked to the start line after checking out the vendors and sat down on the curb and stretched my leg out.

Soon it was time to start the race and i stood in the middle of crowd waiting for the ready.. set..go! Soon we were off!

So off went! After the first half mile I realized that my knee wasnot hurting so I pushed harder and harder. Soon coming around mile 2 I could feel the endorphins kicking in and I was higher then a kite. This was my race and man did it feel good to be back running. i missed it so much. I kept passing person after person and I I kept pulling myself up those stepp hills and their were a lot of hills…A LOT!

Soon I hit mile 3 and i was excited. I could hear the exhaustion in people’s breath as I got closer to them. I was starting to get tired but knew I could not quit. Then I heard the music which is a sign from the running gods that you are close to that finish line. From that point, I went into an all out sprint for the finish line and made it! Race was done!

After I finished the race I got my medal and a beer, which was werid cause I don’t drink but after the morning I had and the win i just acheived I wanted a beer. So I sat on the curve drinking my beer and I posted an after race selfie on Facebook. Soon after that I got a comment from my friend Will.

” You’ve got plenty of time to make it to the 9 AM workout too! Haha, jk… Good job man!”

So after hearing that I finished my beer and got in the car and headed to the gym! Soon I got another picture from my friend Mike.

I arrived at the gym and did the 4th of July workout like a boss which was the following:

“Independence WOD”

For time; (Teams of 2)
7 Rounds, each.
4 Power Cleans @ 185/125
17 Hand release Pushups
Immediately into….
76 Wallballs 20/14

240 Double Unders *720 single-unders

So after all that, I was exhausted but still managed to spend some much needed time with my family. I hope everyone had a happy and safe 4th of July. Mine was awesome.

Next up.. The Yiasou Greek Festival 5K!
