Up To The Top Of Chimney Rock!

Last week I blogged about how my wife has caught the fitness bug and has been watching what she eats and working out every day. It has been nice to spend time with her and that we have something we can do together and be there for one another. It has brought out marriage to another level.

This past weekend my wife decided she wanted to go to the mountains and hike up Chimney Rock, which is near Lake Lure. It is about 2 hours from us. So we packed a cooler and a backpack and loaded the kids up and headed that way early on Saturday morning.

We got there before lunch and just before the crowds came in. We strapped Everly to my back and started to make our way to the top.

My wife did great. She and my oldest stopped a few times to catch their breath. They were a ton of stars. I think I heard someone say about 27 flights and 515 stairs total.

When we finally made it to the top I was very happy for my wife. It was a huge accomplishment for her. She is just starting her journey and I am looking forward to seeing where it takes her. She said she wanted to come back next year and do it again for some before and after photos.

Also the view is stunning…

After we hiked the rock we got some lunch at Medina’s and then played in the river before heading home. It was an awesome day and we will be back I hope really soon.

Killer Week

This week has been crazy. Last week was crazy. I think I have come to the reality that vacation is in my near future. Work and kids have seemed to have swamped my life and is just enough to keep in purgatory.

Work has been insane. Magazines are keeping me busy and my reps always need me. It is a good thing to busy in this day and age. I know a lot of people who have easy jobs until their organization gets smart and cuts them off and now they are struggling to find employment. I actual just got the biggest section of the year put on my lap this week. Living Here is the biggest section The Charlotte Observer publishes. It has one 300 advertisers in it so I have the lucky job to coordinate this publication with only three months of experience. If that is not trust I have no idea what is. It is a great opportunity but I am scared out of my mind. I have a lot of people putting their faith in me to no screw this up.

My wife is a superstar. I can’t ever say that enough. She is like super mom. I really don’t know how she does it and she works full time. The past few weeks we have ad a run of bad luck it you could say that. My truck broke down. The freezer went out and most not the meat that was in there had thawed out so I had to toss it. Then the battery in the truck died so I had to replace it. It has just been one thing after the other.

This weekend we are planning to get away. We have not had a day trip in a couple of weeks so we decided to head up to Lake Lure. We have never been there and are looking forward to exploring and will make a great blog entry next week.

Hope you all have a great Thursday and I will be back on Monday with another #MedalMonday so take care.

Fireworks And Heavy Weight

This Fourth of July was just like any other. I feel I do the same thing every year. Maybe that is a good thing.

I started off the holiday with what I do best…a workout. This workout was not like the one we did last year but I like that it was different. The past few months I have been doing my own thing and it was great to do a workout with the class.

You and your partner complete the following with one partner working at a time. 20 minute cap

Run 1,6oo meters at 400 meters at a time while other partner holds 115 pound bar overhead. If they drop it then they do 5 lateral burps.

Then into…

150 wall ball shots while other partner holds deadlift weight of 205 pounds. With time remaining do max reps of toes to bar or weighted sit ups.

It was a hard one but I managed to only have to put the bar down twice. That is a big win for me.

After that I came home and had my shower, helped my wife clean, and played with Evie. K-Dub went to the parade with her grandparents. My wife went to the store to pick up dinner and to later pick up K-Dub. While she was gone I put Evie down for a nap and just laid on the couch.

When my wife and K got home we headed to the pool for some cool off time but it was short lived as a storm headed in. Thank goodness It did not last long.

After we changed I made burgers, hotdogs, cut up some strawberries and watermelon, boiled some corn, and made homemade ice cream. We invite my MIL to come over and hangout for a couple of minutes.

Soon fireworks started popping off so we sat out in our driveway and watched them before sending the kids off to bed. My wife and I even had on matching T-shirts.

All and all it was a great low key holiday. I hope this blog entry did not bore you too bad. Sometimes you just need a simple day at the house.

Another Beach Day

I can’t believe it is July! Wow! Where has the year gone? We have spent much of our time in the car this year as you  could tell. We have been asked by a lot of our family where are we going this weekend? The answer this past weekend was the beach…again.

When my wife and I were dating we spent a lot of time on the beach. We love it. We don’t go down to eat at fancy restaurants or to shop. We go down there and plan our butts in a chair and stick our feet in the sand and relax. That is a real beach trip. This past weekend was no exception.

We decided to head down to Holden Beach. Its our families beach and we love every minute there. It is nothing special but very special to us. We came down and dropped our stuff off at Nana’s and headed to the beach.

It was crowded, being July Fourth weekend but we managed to find a great parking spot and walk to the beach access. The beach was crowded but we did not mind. We set up camp and let the kids go wild. The water was rough. VERY rough. It was so rough that it knocked you down. We still had a great time.

After changing in the parking lot we headed back to Nana’s house.

We went to the Seafood Barn because I wanted fish.

You also can’t come to Holden Beach without getting some ice cream.

I love these little trips of ours and I hope that even though our Nana is selling her place that we can continue this tradition of being little beach bums.

Date Night, Cookouts, And Ripped Pants

This weekend was very busy as all our weekends are. It seems that my wife and I are busier then ever. We spend most of our weekends trying to hurry and get the laundry and cleaning done on Saturday morning so we can have fun a relax the rest of the time off we have together. This weekend was no different.

My wife had her company BBQ on Saturday at one of her doctors horse farms. It was a heart little BBQ complete with games, kegs of beer, pony rides, and lots of food. Naturally I headed to the keg while the kids played games. We mingled through the crowd. I talked to an old classmate from high school for a bit. It was nice. It was also VERY HOT. As the sweat started to bleed through my shirt I knew it was time to leave. I think the girls had fun.

After we got home and got the chance to dry off, my SIL E came over and watched the kids for us so my wife and I could go out and have a nice dinner just the two of us.

It was nice to get away with my love and stuff our faces with chicken, steak, and chocolate cake. It was not on my approved eating clean diet but well worth it.

Sunday was a blur. We went to the Another Broken Egg Cafe and had a great breakfast that reminded me a lot of our Charleston trip. Then we went home where the kids took a long nap, my went to the grocery store, and we relaxed at the pool for a couple of hours.

After getting the kids settled for dinner my wife asked me to pick up some Sabor Latin Street Grill for dinner so I headed up to Wesley Chapel. Once I got our food and started to climb in my truck I heard a rip. I looked down and my shorts had ripped all the way down the seam of the crotch.

Besides ripping my pants my weekend was great. I would be lying if I said that has never happened to me before. I hope your weekend was as fun and crazy as mine was.

Happy Thursday!

I Am A Tired Dad

I am tired!

The past few months have been like a complete blur. We have had a lot going on. With the renovations, birthday parties, beach trips, sorting through old junk, working, and holidays I really have not had a whole lot of time to breathe.

I think my wife and I need a weekend of down time. As much as I love our crazy life that we built together, I would like to take a time out and sit in a hammock in the shade and just fall asleep for a couple of hours.

There are two things in this world that are amazing: Coffee and more Coffee. I never knew how much I loved it until I had children. My children are amazing but they are exhausting. I love them but they are at a 15 when I need them down at about a 3.

The other day my wife sent me a video of her in the drive thru at Chick-Fil-a and all you hear is my Evie yelling “BITE!!” and that was before my wife even got the food.

I sure I am not the only tired dad out there. I know there are some tired moms out there also. Parents should band together at these points. We all love our kids so it is ok to give each other a little break every now and then. Sometimes it is nice to go to a restaurant that does not have kid placemats.

Honestly I could not come up with something to write about today so this is all I got. Sometimes when you blog you get stuck and when you get stuck you tend to go on little rants like this about tired you are.

Have a great weekend…See you for #MedalMonday!

My Perfect Father’s Day

Just when I think my little girls could not surprise me anymore, they do. I had a great Father’s Day and thanks to my girls and my amazing wife, I was showered with love the entire day.

I woke up to “Happy Father’s Day” from K-Dub, which was followed by lots of hugs and kisses. After we got dressed they handed me their homemade cards. Nothing is better then a homemade card.

I was taken to my favorite breakfast spot which is Stacks in Waxhaw. If you ever go I suggest you go early as the line can get crazy. We stuffed our faces with pancakes, French toast, and hash browns and bacon. So good and so worth it!

After breakfast went on our usual Sunday Target run to get some things for the week and my wife bought me some new clothes. When we got home, I left with K-Dub and went to see Cars 3. It was a great time with just the two of us. I spoiled her with candy and popcorn and she soaked up every minute with me.

When we got home we went swimming for a couple of hours at the neighborhood pool and then went home where I made my famous Mac and cheese with fried squash and cornbread. It was yummy! Then I was treated to Pelican’s Snowcones in Waxhaw. This place is so good. They over 50 flavors and it is very affordable. I got cherry margarita and blue raspberry. So good.

I loved my Father’s Day. I got to spend it with my girls who I love more then anything in this world. Being a dad is the best job I could ask for and one that I never take for granted.
