I live for the weekends. Every week my wife and I are on the go from the time we wake up to the time we finally hit the hay. There usually is no down time during the week. The highlight of our conversations is usually about what to make for dinner and I am sorry that is just not a conversation I want to have at 7 am. By the time Friday comes I am an over worked zombie and need a nap. I think a lot of parents who work full time feel this way.
When Saturdays come I am very much excited as I am not going to be awaken by the harsh sound of my alarm clock but to the tapping on my head by my oldest who wants to go downstairs and watch TV. To be 100% honest here, nine times out of ten I tell her to wake her mom up. I know I am a horrible human being.
This weekend I got up and went to the gym first thing. It was leg day and I wanted to go ahead and get it in first thing. After pounding out some deadlifts and other exercises, I went and got some coffee cause no workout should go not unrewarded.
We decided to take the kids to the park and let then run all their energy out. This was a great idea considering we ended up having a solid 30 minutes of the park to ourselves. I ended up being the master of the kids zip line. The park stated to fill up but we stayed and played. I swung with Evie and Wife slid down the slide with K-Dub.
The kids were tired so we headed home for a quick nap before going to lunch. Not just any lunch. It was a lunch to celebrate by SIL who turned 25! Lunch was at the best Mexican restaurant that is local her in Indian Trail. It real is life changing Mexican food. The kids were disaster between Evie putting her hands in salsa and then rubbing Wife’s shirt and K-Dub having to go to the bathroom, I was done and ready to take the demons home but we had to go to Target first.
We have been working on this Coffee bar project for sometime and we finally found the right model we wanted to get. So I spent the next couple of hours after Target building it and I am so glad it is done.
We still have a couple of things to do but in the end I think we are off to a great start to a new favorite spot for Wife and I at our house. We survive on coffee and the more the better.
Sunday night I had been waiting for my cheat meal. All week in fact and I wanted a burger, fries and a milkshake and I finally got it. My wife treated me to American Burger Co. in Sun Valley. I have to say it was worth it. My burger was called “Hot Mess” which is what I was as I devoured that thing. So worth it.
Now we are back in the grind of work and here we are on Wednesday. lucky for us we only have one more day of work as we are off for a four day weekend!!! Yay!
Let me start by saying that I am sorry for not following up on this past weeks blogs. Things have been nuts around the house and and trying to find the time to blog and update you guys has become difficult but I will talk about that later.
Picking up from my previous entry, the past few weeks we were grieving the loss of Tanner and things are still not the same. You would think with all the losses that my family and I have had that we would be come pros with dealing with grief but it still is easy and I have come to the conclusion that it never will be.
Many people know that my relationship with my brother has never been the best and I am not going into much detail about it but just know that we did finally have a talk and decided that we don’t always have to hang out or see each other every day. I can work with this. After mending some fences he invited me to the open preseason Panther game and you know I love my Carolina Panthers!
I had a great time. Too much of a great time and maybe should have never drank that 6th beer. Anyways, I was really glad to spend some time with him and enjoy some football also.
Finally the weekend came along and we had another birthday party to go to. This time it was for my other niece Charlee as it was her birthday. I can’t believe my niece is going to be in 1st grade this year! Where has the time gone?
The party was fun and even I got on the splash pad and got soaked. My girls had a blast and it was great to be around family and friends.
One thing that I never stop doing is learning. I always try to learn life lessons and sometimes I learn thing even when I don’t want to. I have learned that no matter what happens to just forgive and move on. That does not mean keeping the person around but to not let that hurt control your everyday life. Just let it go. Now sometimes it is harder then others and I struggle myself sometimes but you need to let it go.
The other lesson I learned was to stay out of God’s business and other people’s business and just worry about your business. This has helped me at work. When something does not go my way I have to tell myself I cannot control other people and what they do. I can only control what I do and how I react. This is more then likely my biggest lesson to learn.
I have a lot of cool things happening on the blog soon. A lot of fun things with the kids that need a post so stay tuned.
This Fourth of July was just like any other. I feel I do the same thing every year. Maybe that is a good thing.
I started off the holiday with what I do best…a workout. This workout was not like the one we did last year but I like that it was different. The past few months I have been doing my own thing and it was great to do a workout with the class.
You and your partner complete the following with one partner working at a time. 20 minute cap
Run 1,6oo meters at 400 meters at a time while other partner holds 115 pound bar overhead. If they drop it then they do 5 lateral burps.
150 wall ball shots while other partner holds deadlift weight of 205 pounds. With time remaining do max reps of toes to bar or weighted sit ups.
It was a hard one but I managed to only have to put the bar down twice. That is a big win for me.
After that I came home and had my shower, helped my wife clean, and played with Evie. K-Dub went to the parade with her grandparents. My wife went to the store to pick up dinner and to later pick up K-Dub. While she was gone I put Evie down for a nap and just laid on the couch.
When my wife and K got home we headed to the pool for some cool off time but it was short lived as a storm headed in. Thank goodness It did not last long.
After we changed I made burgers, hotdogs, cut up some strawberries and watermelon, boiled some corn, and made homemade ice cream. We invite my MIL to come over and hangout for a couple of minutes.
Soon fireworks started popping off so we sat out in our driveway and watched them before sending the kids off to bed. My wife and I even had on matching T-shirts.
All and all it was a great low key holiday. I hope this blog entry did not bore you too bad. Sometimes you just need a simple day at the house.
I have been meaning to post this blog for sometime but in all honesty the time has gotten away from me. As you know, We went on a little vacation a couple of weeks ago and I have to say it was great to get away. Nothing like going out of town to get your groove back.
We went to our usual spot, Holden Beach, which is the most beautiful beach in North Carolina in my opinion. We made it there in under three hours thanks to my amazing wife and her mad driving skills. We love seeing our Nana and K-Dub had been asking about her for the past few weeks. We missed her and had a lot to catch up on with her.
On Saturday, I started my day with a 7.50 mile run on the main street of Holden Beach. It was beautiful to be running while watching the sun come up. It reminds you of how amazing this world can be. I wanted to get this run done as early as possible cause it was suppose to be really hot and by the time I finished It was really really HOT!
We spent the rest of the day on the beach where it really did feel like the sun was in your pocket. I found myself having to get in the water more frequently to cool off. K-Dub is scared of the ocean so the closest we could get her to the water was to the start of the shore line. She did love playing in the sand. She made what she called sandcastles but I thought they looked more like holes. We had a nice picnic on the beach and then ended our day with a trip to the amazing Sunset Slush.
Sunday we had another great day at the beach and then spent sometime in Calabash. We got some new ornaments for our tree to welcome Everly. Getting a new ornament is a tradition that we do every year.
You can’t seem to go to the beach without getting some seafood. So we got some dinner and then headed back to Nana’s house where we spent the evening watching TV and playing with K-Dub.
Monday we left after our tradition of eating at The Purple Onion Café, which is the best place to eat. Then we headed home. It was a great trip but like always, it was too short. Maybe next year we can plan a much longer vacation. Next year we will travel as a family of four! Wow! That is going to be exciting!
We are officially on vacation! That’s right readers, we are on the way to the beach for a quick vacation to enjoy this summer weather. Ready to get my toes in the sand and cold drink in my hand (water of course)!
Thanks to our house sitter for watching The Tan Man while we are gone. You guys have fun!
Sorry it’s taken me a week to post. I had to get over my vacation blues. The worst thing about vacations is that they come to a end. It’s always best to do one last crazy thing before it’s over and that is just what I did. After relaxing on the beach, get wet at the water park, and getting up close and personal with a herd of steers it was time to head to the mountains for a zip lining adventure I would never forget.
We arrived at Sky Valley Zip Tours in Blowing Rock, North Carolina early that morning. BrittWhitFun, my sister-in-law Kate, and her husband Spencer and I were so pumped to get started. I do have to admit that I was a little nervous and excited. The iced coffee from Starbucks helped with that a little. We were greeted by our rangers and then told how to put on our safety gear.
Once we got suited up we headed up the mountain to “ground school” where we learned the basic moves to perform a fun and safe zip. Then we got started.
The first few zips were short and easy. I guess they were there just to get you ready for the big ones. Then you went to the one they call “Big Momma”, which is 1,400 feet long and it’s between two mountains and when you look down you see nothing but valley. It was amazing.
As the tour went on you did a cliff jump and a few more zips before ending the tour with a swinging bridge and some zips that were way to fast. I almost knocked Kate off the platform in one.
It was a lot of fun and it was great to do a crazy adventure with my wife, who was a real trooper and I love that she supports my crazy ideas. When we left we grabbed lunch at our favorite pizza place which is Mellow Mushroom and then headed home to get our kids who we missed a lot.
Would I ever do this again? In a heartbeat. It was an amazing adventure. I am hoping to do a few more crazy things before I return like hang gliding or even sky diving. That would be cool. All and all I had a great vacation and can’t wait till the next!
On Friday we had an awesome trip. We heard about this place here in Mooresville, North Carolina that is actually quite unique. It’s like a zoo but there are no cages for most of the wildlife. Thats right! No fences!
We went to this place called The Lazy 5 Ranch. It was almost an hour and a half away bit when we got there we were quite shock as to what we saw. It was about $11 for my wife and I to get in. The kind lady at the window handed us one bucket of feed and pointed us in the right direction to start our quest. The one thing about this zoo is that you have to drive through it. You just read that last part correctly. We started down the dirt road passing a sign that said “welcome”. Suddenly, I felt like I was in the movie Jurassic Park. The music never played and John Hammond never came out to greet me. I was a little bummed but kept driving forward.
As we started our journey we were greeted by ostriches. These birds are scary as they got close to our car and rammed their heads in our feed basket. I speed up to get by them as they reminded me too much of the raptors. I now called them “devil birds” for the rest of the tour. We then came to a section where pigs and goats were. They were so cute and even let you pet them. Then I happened to look up and saw a herd of zebras coming my way. When we arrived at the gate they gave us a list of animals not to feed and a zebra was one of the ones at the top of that list. We just drove up to them and let them come to us and we pet them. It was amazing and now I can say I pet a zebra. K-Dub loved it!
As we came to another section of the tour we were greeted by antelope, deers and rams. I now have a very vial hatred for rams now. Those things are scary and they are greedy when it comes to feeding them. We also saw a bunch of wilder beast cooling off at the water hole. The we came across one of the most scariest things about this tour. We got stuck in a herd of steers. You are not supposed to feed them so we rolled our windows up. Their big horns hit the sides of our car as my teeth grind with every loud thud, Now I know how those kids felt in the movie when the T-Rex was coming after them in the car.
The final area was where you pulled up to the only two fenced in areas in the whole place. One has a rhino in it. He was sleeping but it was cool to see him. I have never seen a rhino in person before. It was awesome! The next area was they kept about six giraffes. They were cute and we loved feeding them. After passing that area you came across where they keep the buffalo. I have never seen a buffalo before but it was awesome. They are huge.
After finishing the tour we got out and made a quick bathroom break before heading to dinner. That place was really fun and we will have to come back soon.
