My Summer TV Binge

One of my favorite things about summer is that I can finally catch up on some of my shows that I have been missing and also discover new shows that I have been meaning to see. The summer is a great time to do this cause all of my shows are over till September and I now get to work on getting caught up before the new season starts.

This year I have decided to make a list of shows and that I either need to finish watching or start before the end of the summer. So far I have knock out a lot.

  1. Daredevil (Last 4 episodes)
  2. Grace and Frankie (Season 1)
  3. Hot In Cleveland (6 episodes)
  4. Secrets and Lies (3 episodes)
  5. Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D (10 episodes)
  6. House of Cards (Seasons 2 & 3)
  7. Orange Is The New Black (Season 3)
  8. Extant (Season 1)
  9. Under The Dome (Seasons 1 & 2)
  10. Hannibal (Season 3)
  11. The Slap (3 episodes)
  12. Brooklyn Nine-Nine (8 episodes)
  13. Family Guy (4 episodes)
  14. The Simpsons (4 episodes)
  15. Extreme Weight Loss (Season 5)
  16. Agent Carter (4 episodes)
  17. Broadchurch (Season 1)
  18. Melissa and Joey (7 episodes)
  19. Baby Daddy (7 episodes)

So far I have manage to knock out a lot of my list and its just now June. I hope I can knock the rest off before September. What are you binge watching?

Binge Watching Like Crazy!

This past week I did something I don’t get to do very often. I actually binge watched a TV show. Most of my time is filled with either blogging, reading, working from home, or cleaning the house so I never get to stop and watch a show from start to finish.

Saturday I was messing around on my Kindle when I went to Netflix to see what was new in the queue. I saw a show called Bloodline that was new and I went online and read some about what the show was. It was a show about a dysfunctional family with secrets and lies and a brother that is the cause of it. It had a lot of great people in so I decided to try it out. I am so glad I did.

From Saturday afternoon to Sunday night I finished the first half of the 13 episode season. I was hooked and could not wait to watch another one. found myself this week watching an episode before leaving for work or before bed. I finally finished the show last night and I have to say it was great. I hope it comes back for a second season.

Now that I am done with Bloodline, I need a new binge worthy show as soon as I finish some books I have out. I still have not seen the second season of House of Cards. I might do that next.

My wife and I decided to lower our TV package. We are going to do that for a month or so and if we still don’t see a difference we will cut service and be a streaming family,

Pulling The Plug

I know a lot of families that are always trying to find new ways to save money. Since I started couponing to save my family money, it has become more of an obsession than anything. Now all I am constantly doing is looking for great deals on anything that may benefit my family.

I have read a few blogs about becoming a frugal family. I found an entry about a year ago that was written by a mom who only has a budget of $50 a month. That includes gas, food, and clothes. Now I don’t want to be on “Extreme Cheapskates” anytime soon but I really have an issue paying full price for things. I am not so frugal that I will start washing my clothes in my dirty bath water. That is just disgusting.

One of the other blog entries I read about was from a dad who unplugged his families cable and now they are a strict Netflix family. This got me thinking. Should I cut the cord on my cable to save some money. At the moment my satellite bill is at $108 and I feel that it is a little too much to pay for entertainment.

It seems that the streaming option is becoming most popular in my generation. Everyone is has Netflix and Hulu Plus. I do in addition to my satellite service. I love using Hulu Plus when I am running on the treadmill to catch up on those shows I missed and I love Netflix for their original programing like House of Cards. Now I found out that HBO is launching their own streaming service and I am very tempted to get it. I love Game of Thrones just like the other millions of people around the world. Streaming just seems the way the world is going now.

So my question to all those frugal parents out there is what do you think I should do? Should I lower my package to the basic channel selections or should I just cut it all off and live by the “streaming method”? Any thoughts and concerns are welcomed at this point.

My Addiction To House Of Cards

As many of my Twitter followers know, I have been trying to binge watch House of Cards on Netflix for about two weeks. This show has got me hooked and I can’t seem to stop watching it.  Every night I try to squeeze an episode or two after my night workouts. I think my wife is getting tired of my keeping her awake watching it on my iPad .

it’s a very addicting show if you ask me. The twist and turns and the people constantly screwing over their friends and coworkers. The fact the Kevin Spacy’s character will stop at nothing to get his revenge on the people who screwed him over and become President is enough to keep you hooked. Everyone loves a great love to hate character. It’s bad that you want to see this guy win

I hope to finish this show soon. I am not even on season two yet. I am sure my wife would love to have me back . I tried to get her to watch it but she did not really care for it. I am only eight episodes in and can’t air to see what Frank does next!

My Fall TV Winners And Losers

As you all know, I am a huge TV junkie. I watch so many shows and every fall I record a bunch of the new shows and give them a chance to “WOW” me. Now that we are almost to the halfway point of the season, it’s not only time for new shows to go on a hiatus for the holidays but also for me to pick which of the new fall shows I will save from the “Delete Series” button. Here is my list of this seasons winners and losers.

1. The Blacklist- This show still has me guessing about whats really going on and is the only show this season that has kept my attention. Just when I think I know whats going to happen, the plot changes and I am left in a state of WTF?

2. Sleepy Hollow- I tuned into this show thinking that it was going to be lame and only last two episodes. I was so wrong. This show is so delightful creepy and fun. It’s a great modern take on a classic story. Every week I am sucked in and left excited to see what happens next.

3. The Goldbergs- I love the 80’s so when I heard about this new show, I had to watch. I immediately could relate to this family and fell in love with them. I also liked to cool 8o’s tie ins. It makes the show even better.

4. Brooklyn Nine-Nine- I am not a fan of cop shows cause most of them are boring but this show is funny. Thats the simple way to put it. I am a huge fan of Andy Samberg so when I saw that he had a new show coming out I  made sure to set my DVR. I am so glad I did. This show reminds me a lot of The Office when it comes to some of the antics these characters pull.

5. Dracula- Who does not love vampires and sex?

1. Betrayal- I started watching this show cause I thought it was going to be like Scandal. I could not get drawn in due to the lack of chemistry from the two main characters. There was nothing that made me want to pull for them and hope that they ended up together.

2. Dads- Not funny and a complete waste of time. I am so hoping that this gets canceled in May. I could not even believe they got a 22 episode order.

3. Marvel Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D.- I am very upset with this show cause I was really excited about it. I keep hoping that something will happen that will hook me in but so far I am disappointed every week.

4. Super Fun Night- What the hell is this suppose to be?

5. Hostages- The series trailer made this show look so good but every week its the same thing. The people are captured, they try to escape, and then they are captured again. I am glad this is only 15 episodes cause my patience is running very thin.

So there is my list for the Fall TV season 2013. I hope you agree with some of my choices. Whats your Fall TV winners and losers?

Life Lessons From Rugrats

At least for 10 to 15 minutes every night my wife and I have a talk about our day, whats going on tomorrow, and other random things but last night we started talking about how watching Rugrats on Nickelodeon changed our lives. Just think about. There are so many life lessons that can be learned by watching these talking babies live and learn about the world.  Can I just say how wonderful being a kid in the 90’s was? It was freakin amazing! Now that I said that, let me give you some life lessons that can be learned by watching Rugrats.

  1. If you ever find yourself locked in a room or a caged fence, reach down in your underwear and find that hidden screwdriver you been keeping and unlock it.
  2. Idolizing a dinosaur is ok
  3. It’s ok to run around naked, even if you are out in public.
  4. If you and your sister are twins, all you have to do is put her bow in your hair and people will not be able to tell you apart even if she clearly has a dress on and you have on overalls.
  5. To always watch your kids and never fall asleep. You never know if they are going on a mission to find a rubber duck or to confront the monster that is living in top shelf of the hallway closet.
  6. Never leave your kids outside alone. This is important if you know that your 1 to 2-year-old kids no where the fence in you backyard is broken.
  7. If you are chilling on the couch watching TV and you kid comes riding in the living room on your dog’s back its time to be concerned.
  8. It’s ok to be scared but not scared of everything.
  9. If you are mad to always say someone’s full name to show you mean business. LILLIAN!!
  10. Dr. Lipschitz does not know anything.

My Top 5 TV Reunions I Want To See

As most of you have already read the news online (If not, click here.). Disney is trying to do a spinoff of the popular show Boy Meets World. It got me remembering my friday nights laughing at Cory, Shawn, and Topanga as they went through their lives trying to make sense of it. I also laughed every time I heard the famous “Feeny call”.  The new show would focus on Cory and Topanga’s daughter and it is titled Girl Meets World. It would not be that bad to have the old gang come back and my a few guest appearances. I could use some more Mr. Feeny knowledge in my life.

There was another show that I loved and I somehow think it prepared me for adulthood and that is Friends. Even today I watch the reruns on TBS and laugh like I never heard them before. The cast needs a reunion soon. It would totally make my life. There is something about Chandler’s humor, Monica’s OCD, Joey being a womanizer, Pheobe’s silly songs and out of this world phrases that make this show so funny. Then tie it up with the romance of Ross and Rachel and you have a hit.

Another reunion that I would love to see is the Tanner Clan from Full House. It has been 25 years since the show first aired and even though most of the cast got together for an off-screen reunion this year, it would be nice to see a made for TV movie about where these characters  ended up. Maybe in the movie they can play that sappy music they play at the end of episodes when it gets to real to solve a problem in 30 minutes.

I keep having my fingers crossed for more information about a 24 movie. I loved that show and the characters. Jack is and will always be my favorite CTU agent. They really need to get on the ball and make this movie so I can go on living.

The show I wish to see bring the entire cast together is Buffy The Vampire Slayer. That show is awesome and when it was on I never missed an episode. I know that a lot of the cast has gone on to bigger and better things but it would be nice to return to Sunnydale one more time. This was the one show that I have on DVD still to this day. I guess if I want to see this reunion the closest thing I can get to it is watching How I Met Your Mother. They always have people from the Buffy universe on there.

I Am Viggle Crazy!

I was recommended this app a while back by my friend Jill and it has become one of my favorite apps for my iPhone. Its called Viggle and the way it works is that every time you check into a show it gives you points. Some shows are worth more than others. After you get a lot of points you can redeem them for free stuff. I thought it was dumb at first until I traded my points for a free $15 gift card to Chilis. It worked. If you have not got this app yet please do. It is so amazing! The other best thing about it is that it is free! My kind of app!
