Unicorn Party- Evie’s 2nd Birthday Party

This weekend we celebrated Evie with a little party at the park. I had to start my morning off with coffee of course.

My wife worked very hard pulling off an awesome Unicorn themed party. She spent a lot of time on Pinterest and making the decorations. She really is very crafty. The decorations she made turned out amazing and the cupcakes were very cute.

The party got a little damp as unexpected rain started but the kids did not care. They just got their umbrellas and played.

We decided to open presents and Evie had a blast opening them. She got a lot of Minnie Mouse stuff and clothes.

We then sang Happy Birthday to her and ate lots of cake.

Football, Splash Pads, & Life Lessons

Let me start by saying that I am sorry for not following up on this past weeks blogs. Things have been nuts around the house and and trying to find the time to blog and update you guys has become difficult but I will talk about that later.

Picking up from my previous entry, the past few weeks we were grieving the loss of Tanner and things are still not the same. You would think with all the losses that my family and I have had that we would be come pros with dealing with grief but it still is easy and I have come to the conclusion that it never will be.

Many people know that my relationship with my brother has never been the best and I am not going into much detail about it but just know that we did finally have a talk and decided that we don’t always have to hang out or see each other every day. I can work with this. After mending some fences he invited me to the open preseason Panther game and you know I love my Carolina Panthers!

I had a great time. Too much of a great time and maybe should have never drank that 6th beer. Anyways, I was really glad to spend some time with him and enjoy some football also.

Finally the weekend came along and we had another birthday party to go to. This time it was for my other niece Charlee as it was her birthday. I can’t believe my niece is going to be in 1st grade this year! Where has the time gone?

The party was fun and even I got on the splash pad and got soaked. My girls had a blast and it was great to be around family and friends.

One thing that I never stop doing is learning. I always try to learn life lessons and sometimes I learn thing even when I don’t want to. I have learned that no matter what happens to just forgive and move on. That does not mean keeping the person around but to not let that hurt control your everyday life. Just let it go. Now sometimes it is harder then others and I struggle myself sometimes but you need to let it go.

The other lesson I learned was to stay out of God’s business and other people’s business and just worry about your business. This has helped me at work. When something does not go my way I have to tell myself I cannot control other people and what they do. I can only control what I do and how I react. This is more then likely my biggest lesson to learn.

I have a lot of cool things happening on the blog soon. A lot of fun things with the kids that need a post so stay tuned.

Ponys & Country Roads

We had a complete Saturday filled with birthday parties. When you become a parent these types of weekends are normal. You have to plan your shopping trips in accord to make sure you get enough presents for the party that you are scheduled to attend. Its the circle of life.

My niece Hayden was born on the Fourth of July so her parents had the party the next weekend so we headed down for a My Little Pony birthday party. The house was completley decorated and looked amazing. The kids played outside in a pool. K-Dub had a ball.

After singing to the birthday girl it was time to move onto party number two. This one was all the way on the back roads of Anson County, which is my old stomping grounds.

On the way out there I was was reminded about how beautiful those country roads can be. I would not move out there but it was still a pretty site.

This party was for a friend of my wife’s little girl. I have to say that I never felt more comfortable with a group of strangers then I did at that party. Everyone was nice and greeted us and talked with us. It was nice.

Superheros And Horse Riding

This past weekend was my nephews birthday party. No they are no twins but their birthdays are like two weeks apart so my SIL like to do one big birthday party and to be quite frank, I do not blame her.

So the theme for their party was superhero. Man I wish I had boys so I could do cool themes like this. You can only be a princess so many times before you want to move on.

The party was so much fun and very hot as the whole thing was outside on my FIL’s farm. I love that farm. They have a ton of land and it is so peaceful unlike the loud suburbs we live in. To start things off we indulge ourselves in watermelon, funny cut shaped PB&J sandwiches, chips, and deli meat pinwheels. My SIL knows how to party.

After we ate, we began to to tractor rides around in the field.

And horse rides for the kids…

and adults..meaning me.

Then we had some really good cake.

I think my nephews had a great party. I am looking forward to spoiling them this coming weekend at the beach.

She Is Four

As a dad, it is hard to watch your kids grow up. I am more then likely not the first person to tell you this as almost everyone said this to me at the time of K-Dub’s birth. It is however true. So true that sometimes you feel like if you blink your kid will be packing their bag and heading off to college. I am being way more dramatic then I need to be but you get the idea.

This week K-Dub is turned four. Wow, four years old. It wont be long before she starts Kindergarten. The other day I was making plans for her party which was Saturday and I could not help but get a little emotional. Its hard to keep it together when you know you are just another year closer to when your oldest leaves you.

I remember the day she was born. It was there day that changed my wife and I forever. Funny how you never knew some much love could exist until you have it bundled up in your arms.

I remember when she first started to walk. Now I can’t keep you from running around Target.

I remember the first time she got sick.

I remember the first time Paw Paw held her

I remember her making Christmas goodies with Maw Maw.

I even remember her first birthday party.

It is so hard to believe she is growing up. Now she loves to be a princess, likes to swing at the playground, get her nails done, wear jewelry and even help Daddy make dinner. She is so special to us and a delight to raise. Sometimes she makes things harder then they need to be. Dinner time is always a fight to get her to eat something other then Goldfish and a cereal bar. She freaks out if she gets the slightest drop of water on her sleeve and must change her shirt ASAP. She only can be a princess when she has a dress on and don’t call her one otherwise. She never wants to go to bed unless you tell her that there is a bath before hand.

Parenting is hard. It just is and no one is better at then others. People just do a better job of hiding it then others. Kids are tough and fearless which is scary. It is a never ending rid that goes way up and then comes crashing down the next turn. I love these moments even though they are hard and I feel like a failure as a dad, I still would not trade them for anything.

Watching K-Dub grow up has been a privilege. Yes that is the word I chose. I could easily have left at any time but I chose to stay and love this little girl. I love teaching her right from wrong, making snacks with her, taking her on special dates, fighting with her about proper shoes for school and punishing her for talking back to her mom. It is all in a days work.

Now she is growing up and one day will not me. Even after I spend three hours of my day off building her a Disney Princess Dollhouse.

Until then I will just continue to enjoy the ride.

The party was a blast. K-Dub had a lot of fun and the day was truly about her. Here are some pics from her party and when we gave her her present.

The Big 31 Birthday Week!

img_0438

It is that time again! Its the day of all days. My birthday! Actually it was this past Sunday but you understand. Everyone knows that I love my birthday. Besides Thanksgiving, it is the one holiday I look forward to every year and yes I did call it a holiday. How could you not love your birthday? It is the one day out of the whole year where it is all about you. You get tons of free stuff and cake…CAKE! I maybe seriously into fitness but I love some darn cake.

Anyway, this week has great so far. Not only did I celebrate my birthday BUT I got some great news at the doctor, and I even started cooking more for the family.

My birthday was great. I woke up to the sound of “Happy Birthday” being sang by my wife and K-Dub. After that they took me downstairs where I was greeted with some very good birthday pancakes and eggs, my favorite breakfast. After guzzling them down we got dressed and dropped the kids off at my SIL Kate’s house. My wife planned a nice lunch for me but I don’t know if I could eat it after that amazing filling breakfast.

We pulled in to my favorite restaurant since I was a kid, Carraba’s! I know many of you have ate at their hundreds of locations. Why is it my favorite? One of the many reasons is because I have never had a bad experience and my birthday was not exception. The last time I had been here was when wife surprised me on my birthday back in 2011 right before we got married. 5 years later and here we are again. Of course I had to dive in and get my favorite appetizer, calamari with lemon pepper butter sauce. It was just how I remembered it. Zesty and spicy but also no over powering. Moving on to entrees I had another favorite which is the chicken bryan. This dish is what introduced me to the amazing world of goat cheese. It is the creamiest and most flavorful cheeses to cook with and it was complemented well with the sun-dried tomatoes. After we ate our main course we enjoyed a nice cocktail. You have to have a cocktail on your birthday. So on those rare occasions when I drink I love to go for a nice martini. The pomegranate martini is amazing. It is sweet but also will catch up to you quick it you have too many.

After finishing off much with some desert, we drove out to Rea Road and to the Stonecrest shopping center where I was treated to Star Wars: Rogue One. It was a great movie and the iner geek in my was thrilled to have seen it in IMAX with those cool 3D glasses. When the movie was over we retreated back to get out children and headed home.

Now I told you i love cake so my wife surprised me with a cake and I was sang “Happy Birthday” to again. I am definitely going to need to go for a run to burn all these extra calories this week!

The next day I do what I do every year. It was time for my annual trips to the doctor’s office. I always try to go and knock them all out in one day. So the first one I saw was my medical doctor.

Before I finish this story I have to say that for the past eight years I have been dealing with a major heart issue known as A-Fib. It is where one of the valves in your heart can get out of rhythm and flutter around to where you feel like you can’t catch your breath. It is very scary.

So after telling my doctor about my family’s issues with heart disease and diabetes, my doctor wanted to give me an EKG. I hate these things cause to be honest I have hair on my chest and those stupid sticky sensors really hurt to pull off. After it was over I figured the doctor would tell me what I already know and that is that I have A-Fib and that maybe it had gotten worse and i needed to have a primary cardiologist. What the doctor actually said was that there was no signs of A-Fib on the EKG at all. I was in shock. I am still not completely out of the woods cause I do have a low heart rate and my doctors does want me to follow up with a cardiologist to make sure everything is ok but for right now I would consider this a win!

I am also happy to say that starting at the end of the month I am participating in a “Dad Bod Challenge”. I am thrilled and excited and ready to learn. The challenge is for 21 days and it is me along with other dads around the country. We will be learning about nutrition, exercise and other ways to increase metabolism. I can’t wait to get started. I am going to be posting my before and after pics so you can see the results.

This weekend I will be getting things ready for K-Dub’s birthday party next weekend. Can you believe she is going to be four years old? Where has the time gone? I wish she could stay small forever. Anyways, I have to call and order a cake, nugget and fruit trays, build a princess dollhouse and send out invites. I love planning my kids birthday parties. They are always a lot of fun and this year we having it somewhere other then my house. YAY!

A Very Snowy Birthday

IMG_0375

Well this weekend were blessed to have a crazy snow storm. i have to say that I hate snow. Its really pretty when its falling but i don’t like it to stay. The only thing other than snow I hate is ice. ICE SUCKS!

Before we go into all that snowy stuff, i just have to say that I can’t believe that my little girl is three years old. That is right, K-Dub turned three on Thursday and I am not sure how I feel about. On one end, I like that she is getting older, smarter, more energetic, and wants to be around me and my wife all the time. ALL THE TIME! Then I am sad cause my little girl is growing up and I feel it is happening so fast. I used to hear that all the time but never truly paid it any attention until I had kids of my own. They were right. Soon K-Dub will be driving, then college and then getting married.

As of right now she is obsessed with princesses, puzzles, The Lion Guard, and a new found love of Rugrats thanks to Hulu! She enjoys eating chicken nuggets, fruit, fruit snacks, apples, apple juice, oatmeal, and pasta. She also will tell you that Mommy is her best friend and that Daddy is her girl.

Since this past Thursday was her birthday, we planned an amazing Cinderella party at our house but the weather had other plans. We had to cancel the party and schedule it for the following weekend. It kind of worked out good cause K-Dub was coming down with a killer cold.

But we did manage to play in the snow…
