(#10) Turkey Disaster To Turkey Prefection

The last piece of pie has been ate, the leftovers have been wrapped, and my brain is still in a turkey hangover. Yes everyone, Thanksgiving has now passed and I have to say it went off without an issue. Ok so I just lied to you. Here is the story.

Tuesday night I had to brine my turkey I made the brine and put the turkey in the brine bag and it looked like this-

Then I went to put the brine in the roasting pan and the bag busted and brine got all over my kitchen. So I spent two hours mopping brine off the floor. It was not the best night ever.

So that was my disaster for Thanksgiving. I then got up at 6:00 AM and finished preparing my turkey and started to cook it. Three hours later it looked like this-

Let me tell you that was the best turkey ever!!! I have to say I was worried but my first turkey was awesome.

I then started cooking all the other dishes and even had to have a few glasses of wine AKA holiday medicine. As you can see we had quite a spread.

The whole lunch went great. The food was amazing and everyone had a great time. I really enjoyed my first Thanksgiving hosting. Will I do it again? Oh hell yes!!!

Gearing Up For Turkey Day!

20131119-082101.jpg

We are a little over a week away from Thanksgiving, which to me, is the Super Bowl of family gatherings. I love this holiday and now I am even more excited to finally knock number 10 off my list. To finally cook a Thanksgiving dinner and host it at my new house is a very big deal for me. Its my chance to show off my cooking skills to my family and friends. They all know I can cook but this is the time to really shine.

This past weekend I spent some time cleaning the house. BrittWhitFun and I swept the kitchen, vacuumed the floors, and picked up all of K-Dub’s toys. I still have a lot of cleaning to do but already plan on spending the day before cleaning the rest of the house. I also got the table already decorated for next Thursdays feast. It’s complete with Karsyn’s decorated pumpkin from her most recent trip to the pumpkin patch.

I also spent some time on Sunday organizing my shopping list. I finally have my menu set for Thanksgiving. The only thing I am worried most about is that I have never cooked a turkey before. I heard that you have to stick you hand in the dead bird’s butt and pull out all of it’s organs. I am not sure how I feel about that. I will have to let you know how it turns out.

So as you can tell, I am more than a little excited about next weeks lunch. This is a first of hopefully many Thanksgivings at my home. I hope everything goes well and no surprises derail my Martha Stewartesk meal.

My Nickname Should Be Daddy Does It All!

I have to admit that there are times where I want to get in my car and drive to the nearest hotel, check into the nicest room, lay on the bed and relax. Why you ask? For that question to be answered I must tell you a little about the typical day in the my life.

5:30 am- Alarm goes off!

5:45 am- Alarm goes off again. This time I get up.

5:46 am- Bathroom routine (Complete with brushing teeth, applying deodorant, and fixing hair.).

5:50 am- Get dressed

6:00 am- Head downstairs, turn off alarm, make my lunch, get dinner in the crock pot, make breakfast, feed Tan Man, Take Tan Man potty, Download shows to Genie Go app, and make to go coffee.

6:30 am- Drive to work while drinking coffee, cursing other drivers for driving slow, jamming out to Frank Sinatra Radio on iTunes Radio, and reviewing plans for the day in my head.

7:20 am- Arrive at Work

8:00 am- Do various work related task and unrelated work task like, watching download shows, witting blog entries, listening to other people’s conversations, talk about Scandal, and celebrating some coworkers birthday.

4:30 pm- I am free!!! Time to head home!

5:30 pm- Home sweet home!

5:31 pm- Start cooking dinner such as side dishes, salads, or bread.

6:00 pm- Dinner time!

6:30 pm- Clean up kitchen and some house work. This may include laundry, vacuuming, sweeping, cleaning bathrooms, and gathering trash.

7:00 pm- Karsyn’s bedtime routine. This includes a bath, a 6 oz bottle, a fight to get PJs on, maybe a story, and then the last ten minutes of me holding her wishing she would stop growing up.

7:30 pm- Exercise time and shower

8:00 pm- TV time with the wife that includes conversation about our day and maybe some ice cream.

10:00 pm- Sex Life

10:01 pm- Bed time

As you can see this is a very intense schedule when it comes to being a husband and a father who does a lot. I like being so busy and my wife is very appreciate. She does help me with the baby while I take care of the cleaning and cooking. Truth be told it is more me helping her with the baby then her helping me. My wife is a wonderful mom and Karsyn’s bedtime routine is her thing. I only make myself available so if she needs me she just has to ask.

So why get in the car and head to a hotel? Sometimes I do feel a little overwhelmed. There are just so many hours in a day and its hard to stay on top of everything. There are days where I just have to take some time and be alone to just relax. Then its up and back to work feeling refreshed and ready to go.

Do I mind being the cook, janitor, banker, and heavy lifter? The answer is not at all. I love being needed and it makes me proud to be a husband and dad to do all this because it makes me feel like I am providing and supporting my family. My wife always brags about me to her friends and knows she has a great thing going at home. She thinks there is nothing sexier than a man who does it all!
