Killer Week

This week has been crazy. Last week was crazy. I think I have come to the reality that vacation is in my near future. Work and kids have seemed to have swamped my life and is just enough to keep in purgatory.

Work has been insane. Magazines are keeping me busy and my reps always need me. It is a good thing to busy in this day and age. I know a lot of people who have easy jobs until their organization gets smart and cuts them off and now they are struggling to find employment. I actual just got the biggest section of the year put on my lap this week. Living Here is the biggest section The Charlotte Observer publishes. It has one 300 advertisers in it so I have the lucky job to coordinate this publication with only three months of experience. If that is not trust I have no idea what is. It is a great opportunity but I am scared out of my mind. I have a lot of people putting their faith in me to no screw this up.

My wife is a superstar. I can’t ever say that enough. She is like super mom. I really don’t know how she does it and she works full time. The past few weeks we have ad a run of bad luck it you could say that. My truck broke down. The freezer went out and most not the meat that was in there had thawed out so I had to toss it. Then the battery in the truck died so I had to replace it. It has just been one thing after the other.

This weekend we are planning to get away. We have not had a day trip in a couple of weeks so we decided to head up to Lake Lure. We have never been there and are looking forward to exploring and will make a great blog entry next week.

Hope you all have a great Thursday and I will be back on Monday with another #MedalMonday so take care.

Date Night, Cookouts, And Ripped Pants

This weekend was very busy as all our weekends are. It seems that my wife and I are busier then ever. We spend most of our weekends trying to hurry and get the laundry and cleaning done on Saturday morning so we can have fun a relax the rest of the time off we have together. This weekend was no different.

My wife had her company BBQ on Saturday at one of her doctors horse farms. It was a heart little BBQ complete with games, kegs of beer, pony rides, and lots of food. Naturally I headed to the keg while the kids played games. We mingled through the crowd. I talked to an old classmate from high school for a bit. It was nice. It was also VERY HOT. As the sweat started to bleed through my shirt I knew it was time to leave. I think the girls had fun.

After we got home and got the chance to dry off, my SIL E came over and watched the kids for us so my wife and I could go out and have a nice dinner just the two of us.

It was nice to get away with my love and stuff our faces with chicken, steak, and chocolate cake. It was not on my approved eating clean diet but well worth it.

Sunday was a blur. We went to the Another Broken Egg Cafe and had a great breakfast that reminded me a lot of our Charleston trip. Then we went home where the kids took a long nap, my went to the grocery store, and we relaxed at the pool for a couple of hours.

After getting the kids settled for dinner my wife asked me to pick up some Sabor Latin Street Grill for dinner so I headed up to Wesley Chapel. Once I got our food and started to climb in my truck I heard a rip. I looked down and my shorts had ripped all the way down the seam of the crotch.

Besides ripping my pants my weekend was great. I would be lying if I said that has never happened to me before. I hope your weekend was as fun and crazy as mine was.

Happy Thursday!

How I Met Your Mother

So this week is BrittWhitFun and I anniversary! We have been married six years this Saturday! For the next few days I am going to travel back in time and show some old photos from us when we started dating and also telling the stories of how we met and got engaged and finally married.

As many of our friends and family know we met at the local Urgent Care. My mom was my wife’s boss at the time and had been pushing for us to meet. I just went through a really bad breakup and my wife was left at the alter. I know right! Its like an episode of Grey’s Anatomy. I was not one to like being fixed up, especially by my own mother so I declined.

One day I woke up and I knew I had pink eye so I called my mom and she got me in to see the doctor. So I drove to the Urgent Care and sat in my my moms office until I was called to a room.

Once I was in the room and settled, this girl walked in with a red scrub top and curly hair. She could barley look at me and I just could not stop looking at her. She was stunning. As we went through the list of questions we came to “are you a smoker” and I said “yes”. She looked at me and asked, “Does your momma know you smoke?”

I replied and yes and later seen by the doctor. Once I was finished I went back to my moms office and found out I was set up by her. She had a plan all along to have my future wife take me back to the room. I told my mom she was cute and I would like to go out with her but I had to run. I wrote my number on a sticky note and gave it to my mother to give to her.

A few days later she called me and we ended up going out on a date. We talked about our past relationships and what we wanted out of love and life. We found we have very little in common but there was a spark. Soon that spark turned into a fire.

Since that first date we never left each other’s side. She would come to the apartment and eat dinner and sometimes sleep over and then rush home before her dad got home from work. We went to the beach and I met her Nana for the first time. Soon I was dating my best friend and it was not long before I told her I loved her for the first time on Holden Beach Pier.

The rest is history.

Daddy And Daughter Movie Night

After a crazy week at the office and all the stuff going on with my mom I needed a night out with one of my special ladies. She is smart, funny, and loves to carry on a conversation. My wife was busy so K-Dub.

I really have not seen her lately. With late visits at the hospital I have missed dinner and bedtime with her. So tonight I asked her if she wanted to go on a date with daddy and the excitement on her face was enough to melt my heart.

We went to the movies and saw The Secret Life Of Pets and it was cute. I bought K-Dub a little kids try with popcorn, candy and a drink and she sat in my lap and did not move.

Afterwards we went to the grocery store and headed home. She told me that she liked our date and wanted to do it again soon. I can’t wait!

A Little Daddy-Daughter Date

Last week you may remember me talking about how much my oldest daughter hates me and wants nothing to do with me. It really hurt my feelings and to hear that I was not her best friend was life crushing. So I took matters into my own hands and told myself that this was a cry for help and I must answer it. The solution you ask? It was time for a Daddy-Daughter date.

I sat K-Dub on the kitchen counter and asked her if she would go on a date with me. She was so excited that she said yes immediately. From that moment our date was all she talked about. She told her friends and teachers at school and nagged my wife about. I think she just needed some time with her dad. Work has been crazy and training for all these races and The Crossfit Open have really took a lot of my time so I wanted to devote all my time and attention to my little girl.

So Saturday  rolled around and we left and went out to lunch where we sat and gossiped about the peeps from daycare and how much she loved a little boy named Eric, which I was not happy about. We laughed and colored on the kids menu. K-Dub asked me to sit next to her instead of across from her. She hugged me and gave me a kiss. It was amazing.

After lunch we went to get ice cream. She wanted pink ice cream but I got her vanilla and told her it was a light shade of pink. She bought it and started to eat it. We sat and talked some more. The conversation was mostly about Paw Patrol, Frozen, and The Lion Guard. Then an old man walked up to us and stopped. He told me my daughter was cute and that he use to take his daughter out on little ice cream runs. He then explained that it was the highlight of his week when they got to go and do something just the two of them. He said now she is married with a family of her own and that time flies and that I should treasure every one of these moments.

I started to think about what the old man said as I put K-Dub to bed that night. Time is a valuable thing and that one day my daughter will be on her own with her own kids and husband. She won’t be so small to go on dates with me. I need to devote more time to my daughter. Sometimes when you are a parent you get distracted by all the other millions of things you have going on that you let the most important things slip between the cracks.

Since our date, K-Dub now tells me that I have joined the list of her best friends and that she loves me. For those of you who are asking, the list comprises of Pop, Aubrey(her friend from daycare), Eric(her little boyfriend), and me. I maybe last but at least now I am on the list. She is already talking about our next date and I am excited to take her.

Valentine’s Day Is Exhausting!

Since that crazy snow storm came through, I quickly ran out of time to go shopping for Valentine’s Day. I have never been one of those guys that wait til the last-minute but this year was not my fault. I was snowed in against my will and could not get to the store. What was a guy to do?

I did make plans for Valentine’s Day by arranging a hotel room for BrittWhitFun and I. This was a big deal for my wife cause it was going to be the first time she was going to leave the baby overnight. I jut needed to get other stuff like a nice card and maybe some of her favorite candies.

I went to the local Wal-Mart and managed to get in. I say that cause you would not believe all the males that were in there. Every guy had a teddy bear, a rose, a card, and a heart shaped box of chocolate in their hand as they fought their way to the front of the store. I quickly grabbed some candy and a card and threw a few elbows to get what I wanted and headed to the front. I even managed to grab a bottle of wine and some decorative rose petals. If you are going to do Valentine’s Day then you have to do it right. I waited in line for about twenty minutes at the “speedy” checkout and left unharmed.

Once I arrived at the hotel after being stuck in some leftover snow for 30 minutes, I checked in and decorated the room and gotta shower and a quick workout at the downstairs hotel gym and rush off to pick up my Valentine. Once I got her we went and had a not so quite dinner at the Stone Mountain Grill where we fed our faces like it was going out style. After we went back to the hotel  and that is all there is left to say about that.

Every year on Valentine’s Day I have a tradition where I get K-Dub a book and a card. The book usually has a Valentine’s Day theme and I put the year in the corner along with a special message from Daddy. I went to Target and found a book that was so cute called I Love You So… She loved it and I love giving it to her. It’s just a special thing from her Daddy to her.

So that was Valentine’s Day and I have to say that after doing all that, I was so tired but I would not trade those smiles on my wife and daughter’s face to save my life. Worth every elbow thrown.
