Saturday Adventures In CLT

One of the coolest things about my job is that I get to go to new places and meet a lot of cool people. It also helps when you get to eat the newest foods from the best local restaurants.

This past Saturday my wife and I wanted to get out of the house as we have spent the last two weekends at home. I am usually one to stay home as I love to be in my recliner watching the latest episodes of Mickey Mouse and Sophia the First. That is a total lie and any parent that tell you differently is a total liar. At around noon and after we got the house cleaned we all got dress and loaded the car and went on a little adventure.

Since I work really close with the website C5 I get recommendations on restaurants all the time as most of our most popular stories are about new restaurant opening and new items on local menus. One of my reps told me about Bang Bang Burgers and that I was going to have to try it. I love a good burger anyways so this was the first place in our list.

I knew I was in for a real good meal when the parking lot was full. Also, when we entered the restaurant we noticed there was not an open table to be found. We placed our order and waited against the wall for a table to open up. I guess that is what we get for going to lunch at 1 pm. Finally a family got up from a booth and we slid in as they walked out the door.

We got the kids situated and got our drinks and waited patiently for our food. When the food came, which was really fast, I was really impressed with how everything looked. My wife and I both got the pimento cheeseburgers while the kids stuffed their faces with chicken nuggets. Big shocker there.

The food was awesome. The burgers were very flavorful and the sauces they give you were amazing. I personally liked the Bang Bang sauce and their ranch. So good and my kids loved their nuggets.

After lunch, we got back in the car and rode over to the Dillworth area cause I wanted my wife to try the amazing Duck Doughnuts. I am a huge doughnut fan and I love trying locally made doughnuts. Their is nothing better then supporting local business in your area and it helps if they have a really tasty product.

When we got to the store it was also busy. People were everywhere and we finally got up to the counter to place out order. My wife and I decided to get a dozen so we could have breakfast on Sunday morning also. We ordered a wide variety from my personal favorite which is the maple bacon doughnut to the French toast flavored doughnut. My kids got a strawberry one and a chocolate covered glazed one.

The only thing about our experience was that they lost our ticket and we waited for over 20 minutes before they noticed that we were waiting. Now I am never one to complain at restaurants and I did not. The manager took it upon herself to come out and apologize and gave us a card for a free doughnut. That was nice and very thoughtful.

We sat at the bar by the front window and ate some of our doughnuts and enjoyed each others company. My kids loved their doughnuts cause they came out fresh and warm. They kept telling me how much they like it and that they wanted to come back. I told we would but I want to try some of the other local doughnut places first.

When we for back in the car my kids fell asleep and my wife and I headed home. That was enough adventure for one day. We already started planning our next one and can’t seem to decide where to go next. I will keep you posted.

Operation: Danger Ranger

This past weekend we headed back to Carolina Beach to get the truck from the auto shop. I was a great chance to have a little day trip and enjoy each other’s company. It was a perfect Saturday morning.

After we got the truck, we headed down to the boardwalk and ate at Shelby Jean’s restaurant. It was a cool place with some really good food. The girls had a blast eating and of course chasing each other around the whole place.

After finding some grub for our bellys, we headed to the beach for some fun in the sun.

We built sandcastles and watched the girls get coated with sand. I have never seen Evie get so disgusting. It was fun to hang on the beach with them.

After playing in the and and beating the ocean up for the second time, we changed our clothes and headed home but not before grabbing doughnuts from Britt’s and Wake and Bake. What can I say? Saturdays are meant for doughnuts and coffee. I love them both.

We had a blast on our day trip and have discussed to do more of them in the future.

I am so glad to have my truck back. I missed it!

Operation: Rescue Daddy

This weekend I was very excited. I was going to have my first guys weekend in a while to spend some time with brother down at Carolina Beach. I was going to drive my truck that I just had lifted and got new mud tires installed. I was going to be a great weekend of camping, fishing, and just enjoying each others company.

Fate had a different idea. I was on the way down Friday night when just when I got into Carolina Beach my truck started to shake and my truck started to smoke. It turns out my drivers side front axle broke and my drivers side tire was slanted.

So my brother came and picked me up and I stayed the night at the camp site. In the morning I called around some auto shops only to find that most were closed for Easter holiday. I finally found one that was opened. I called my wife to tell her what happened and she stopped everything and said she was on the way.

After a couple of hours I was greeted by her and my beautiful girls. She helped me get the car towed to the auto shop. What started as a guys weekend ended up as a little family vacation. We played on the beach.

Me love to beat up the ocean!

We go doughnuts at the famous Wake and Bake Doughnut Shop.

We stayed the night at BrittWhitFun’s grandma’s house at Holden Beach and then got up Sunday morning and played a little on the beach before heading home.

I honestly would not know what I would do without my gals. I love them so much and I am thankful to be a husband and father in this little family of mine. I am a lucky man.

I hope to hear back from the auto shop this week. It looks like this Saturday we will be making another impromtu trip to the beach to pick up the truck… and maybe to a little beach bumming.

Nothing Like A Minivay!

Ok minivay is not even word but just stay with me.

After my 5k race and wining third place, my wife decided to head on a little adventure. She recently read my post about how I was in need of an adventure and I was happy to go along with it. We drove into Southport, NC and got on the ferry to head to Carolina Beach. I was still in awe of my big win at the race but now I was even more excited for what I knew was gong to be an awesome day.

When we got off the ferry we headed down to Carolina Beach and once we go there and got parked explored a little. We walked on the boardwalk and saw a few shops. I love the beach cause there are so many small shops like an arcade, pizza places, ice cream, mini golf, and doughnut shops.

Wait! Doughnut shops?

That is right! Carolina Beach is the home of Britt’s Doughnut Shop. I heard about this shop from a coworker and I knew I had to try these sweet treats. Hey I just got done running a 5k that I have been training hard for. I needed a reward. So I got some cash from the local ATM and bought me a dozen. I could not wait any longer and took a doughnut out and took a bite. Best doughnuts ever!

After getting my doughnut fix we went and had lunch at Pop’s Diner and had the usual grill food. It was good and the prices were not that bad.

At this point on our adventure I was exhausted but glad to see what the rest of the day had in store. I really wanted to just go and lay on a beach somewhere for a few hours. So my wife and I along with K-Dub and Nanny E headed back across the pond to Holden Beach.

I did nothing but lay my towel down and fall asleep. A beach is the best place to fall asleep. I then got up and played in the sand with K-Dub for a while. It was fun. She is still scared of the ocean. I hope by the time she is five she grows out of that mess.

By the time we got back to Nana’s house we were all beat. I made stew cabbage, Nanny E made a meatloaf, and BrittWhitFun made mashed potatoes, which turned out to be the best dinner ever followed by the rest of the doughnuts from Britt’s.

The next day we packed all of our bags and went out for our usual meal at The Purple Onion Cafe before heading home. All and all, I have to say it was a great weekend. It was a much-needed adventure.
