Pumpkin Time

Fall is here or at least it has been here for a couple of weeks. I wish that outside felt more like it. It still feels like summer. Today as I am writing this it is humid and sticky outside. Gross!

I love the when it is fall. The leaves change color, it gets colder, bonfires, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and pumpkin spic lattes make this season great. Speaking of pumpkins, one of the best traditions we have as a family is to head over to the Pumpkin Patch at Riverbend Farms and pick out our pumpkins.

This year we went with my brother and his family and had a blast.

Climbing on fake animals…

and tractors.

Sliding down the slides

After playing it was time to get on the hayride.

The real work began as it was time to pick up out pumpkins…

I think my family had a great time and it gave mine and my brother’s family some time to enjoy each other.

Our Yabba Dabba Doo Halloween!

Well Halloween has come and passed but it sure was fun. As you can see we were The Flintstones for Halloween. I have to say my little Pebbles looked really cute. After we got dress we went to Trunk-or-Treat at the local church and had a great time showing off our costumes to the community. People gave us lots of compliments and said that we were really cute. I think the real stars of the night were of course the babies. K-Dub and HJ who really looked cute with their Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm costumes on. We of course had to stop by Aunt E to see her Christmas decorated trunk.

After we left the church we stop by my mom’s house so she could see us. She was sitting outside in the driveway handing out candy to the local kids. She got her picture made with Pebbles and just said that she was too cute.

Oh, and when I was at work we had a pumpkin carving contest and one team made this really cute pumpkin in the shape of a Big Mac. It was the most original pumpkin I have seen in a long time. They won a free pizza lunch and they deserve it!

How was your Halloween? What did you dress up as? Ours was fun and it will always be one that K-Dub will remember for the rest of her life. If not, I could always just show her this blog entry. As for now I will be taking down the Halloween stuff this weekend to make room for my favorite holiday which is Thanksgiving. This year it is going to be hosted at my house so I have a feeling its going to be very stressful. In the meantime don’t get full on candy!

The Great Scarecrow Race Of 2013 And My Annual Holiday Rant!

So yesterday I shared that BritWhitFun and I spent our weekend celebrating our favorite season of the year. We took K-Dub to the pumpkin patch and got some pumpkins to decorate the front of the house. If was an all day process on Monday but there was one thing our little front door display was missing. After much debate and brainstorming, I decided to find a scarecrow and put it on the bale of hay. This sounds easy right? I had no idea that this was going to be a journey of epic proportions.

Our journey started after we left the pumpkin patch. I was so excited that I could barely contain myself. I love holidays and decorating is so much fun! Our first stop was a Big Lots. We ran inside thinking that they would be at the center of the store. After about five minutes of walking we could not find the Halloween stuff. We walked to the back corner to find one aisle of Halloween decorations but no scarecrows. I went to the other side of the aisle to find a Christmas bomb had went off for the next three aisles. If you remember last year when I wrote about how it was not even Thanksgiving yet and Christmas was already everywhere. I guess this year the Christmas rush is starting early.

After we left Big Lots feeling sad, we rode over to Wal-Mart and ran into the garden center area to find it had been redecorated for Christmas. Nothing fall related was out. I could not believe it. I had to walk all the way to the front of the store only to find that the only outside decorations they had were those tacky inflatable ones. I was starting to feel that this was a lost cause.

The last place we checked was Dollar General and that was a bust. I got home and felt defeated. I asked my Facebook friends where to find a scarecrow. Most of them said to go to Old Time Pottery or AC Moore. I will be making the trip this weekend. It amazes me how stores are already done with Halloween, skipped Thanksgiving and already set for Christmas. On the bright side I did get some amazing Duke ornaments for my tree this year.

Update I found a scarecrow today at Old Time Pottery.

Nothing Beats A Fall Celebration!

20131022-093214.jpg

This weekend was a fun filled one. We had a lot going on. We decided to kick our celebration of fall in high gear. This eventful weekend started with a trip to the Fall Festival at Lake Park. They had a bunch of free rides for the kids. BritWhitFun, K-Dub and I met my sister in law, niece and mom at the event. We watched as Charlee Bell (my niece) played mini golf, went down a huge sliding board, jumped around in a bounce house, and rode the carousel. We were not completely bored as BritWhitFun took K-Dub for a ride on the carousel and she loved it. I will post a video soon.

Sunday was a very much laid back day as we spent the majority of it watching football and sleeping. There is nothing like watching football while lying on the couch. It just screams fall.

Yesterday I went shopping to decorate the front of my house for Halloween. I got some hay and went to target and got a huge light up pumpkin to put outside our house. I was still missing something.

That night after K-Dub’s nine month check up we we took her to the pumpkin patch to get some pumpkins to finish off the front if the house. She had a ball as we for her one that was just her size. After we left and put them out on the front porch, still feel like something is missing. I have decided to get a scarecrow to put out there but that story is for tomorrow.

So it looks like we are almost ready for Halloween. We are waiting for our costumes to come in and can’t wait for you see. It’s going to be a great Halloween. I just know it.
