We have not had a medal Monday Monday in a while and I completed my virtual race for August! I have to say this was a fun event and I managed to get the August medal and the medal for completing all three races. So now that this series of races are over I have a lot of great things happening in the fall that I am super excited about. I even got my family involved in some of them.

It has finally happened folks. My wife and I are finally working out together!
Ever since I got into fitness I have dreamed of getting my wife to join me. I always saw couples at the gym working out together and that was always something I wanted for me and BrittWhitFun. She came up to ma couple of days ago wanting me to teach her things and give her some workouts.
Before I knew it she was starting to eat better and ask about how to lose weight and tone her body. So we researched and I gave her some stories from my own experience.
I explained that it is a journey and not an overnight thing. To keep trying even if you feel like given up. My body is no where I want it to be but I am getting closer everyday and I know with hard work and dedication and a super supportive husband she will be fine.
This is going to be fun.
It has been a hot minute since I posted a Medal Monday so I recently completed my time for the July Disney Virtual Race and wanted to share my medal for the month.
This month I really hopped back on the track and treadmill. I have not really ran this hard since the Charlotte Marathon event last November so it has been since to work my distance back up and to get me ready for the races and competitions I have coming in 2018.
The past two weeks I have been on a new training plan. I got a new coach who is local and got a new plan tailored to my goals of the following:
- Build more muscle mass on my upper body.
- Train for a triathlon which I plan to compete in June 2018
- To compete in a body building physique competition.
These three things are the last few things I want to accomplish before I turn 40. So I met with my coach and we went through each of these goals one by one and he explained how he was going to help me reach each one.
It was a matter of days, I was sent a complete weeks worth of workouts that were challenging and tested me in every way. Monday to Friday I was either at the gym or the home gym between 4:30 and 7 in the morning training.
I know it has been only two weeks but I can tell a huge difference. The main difference is being sore. REALLY sore. I love it. I can tell my muscles are growing. My ass is more firm and for the first time I am actually focusing on my core. I can’t wait to see what I look like in a matter of 6 months.
This was one of those races that did not end very well for me. We all have these types of races. When we wish we did better or if there was something we could have done differently to prepare. I actually never talked about this race on the blog before but better time then today.
I got my stuff ready the night before like I do with any race. I got up and got dressed and headed to the train station. It was a cold November morning but the closer I got to Uptown the more excited I was getting.
This was my last race of the 2016 season before I took a break. It was my 10th race of the year overall. I was ready to be done before it even started. The truth is that the Charlotte Half Marathon is my favorite course ever. The beautiful neighborhoods of Myers Park, Dillworth, and then the home stretch through South End. It is also challenging with the big hills.
One of the cool things about this race was all the people on the sidelines cheering you on. That was incredible.
I was doing fine. Running at a steady pace. I stopped at the water stations and got some Gatorade. Nothing was going to stop me. I was going to finish this race.
Everything was fine from miles 1 to 11 and then it took a dark turn. When running through South End my legs started to cramp. I never had this happen to me before. It was the most intense pain I have ever experience in my legs. So here I am on mile 12 limping to the finish line.
I made it and I was so glad. It was a good race all things considering. I even got another medal for completing this and the Rocktoberfest Half Marathon but we will talk about that one later.
I love this race as it holds dear to my heart. I did the complete marathon the year before. If you are looking for a fun race in Charlotte in November then sign up for The Charlotte Half Marathon cause it will not disappoint.

So I really have been in to virtual races lately. Last year I signed up for so many races that I was traveling on Saturday out of the month to compete. It became very busy and I hate being away from my family. So I had a friend mention he was doing a virtual race and I asked him what they were. His response was that there are races out there that do virtual races in order to raise money for a specific cause. You run the require distance on your own time. They ship you a medal and a race bib and you post your results online.
Once he told me that I had to check it out. Sure enough it was a real thing. Soon I found myself signing up for all sorts of races. How cool was this? You can still compete and train and you don’t have to travel to do it.
One of the races I signed up for was The Walking Day 5k. I just completed this race this week and got my medal. It really looks like the logo from the AMC show The Walking Dead which by chance happens to be one of my favorite shows.
I have a lot more races coming and I also just found out that there is a virtual race series from Disney so you know I am signing up for that one.
