Now She Is Five

It is really hard for me to believe that I now have a five year old in my house. She has grown up right in front of me faster then I care to share. Now I just look at her in aw as she is turning into a kind and gentle soul.

I guess I need to start from the beginning as it is February and I am just now writing a blog entry about my daughter turning five, which happened last month. Can you say slacker dad? You see my daughter loves her birthday. We have heard nothing but her birthday party plans since before last summer began. Those plans have changed from a Frozen themed party to an Ariel themed party to now just a simple princess themed party. I am not going to lie I was so ready to dress up like Olaf or come in rocking my amazing Jamaican accent. Anyways, she is obsessed with her birthday. I wonder where she gets that. I mean I love to remind everyone about my birthday starting in October so I can make sure I have a good gift and cake ratio. Ok so she gets it from me. Man you guys really know how to make a guy confess. Just another reason why I could never get away with murder.

It came to the day of and I may have went a little over board with the decorations and making my daughter feel extra special. The birthday crown and matching sash may had been a little to much. What do you think?

My wife really is the grand champion of all things birthday party related. She sent out the group birthday part invitation text, bought all the food, and made sure the house was clean. All I was in charge of was getting the decorations and picking up the cake. These things I knew I could handle.

When it came down to party time. our house got full real quick. K-Dubs friends all came along with her cousins and of course little Evie was right behind them as they ran around the house screaming. I have never heard so many screams of laughter in my life. It was cute but also made it very impossible to carry on a conversation with any of the other adults at the party.

Being there crowd fearing person I am, I worked hard to keep the party moving so after about 30 minutes of mingling around and greeting guest I pushed for it to be cake time.

There is nothing more special to me then when I get to sing happy birthday to my kids. It is just a confirmation that they are getting older and more importantly that I survived another year of parenthood.

Then it was time to open gifts and one of things I have found hard about this is trying to get my kid to say thank you. Here we are surrounded by family and friends and some strangers and the last thing I want people to think is that my kid is an ungrateful monster. Usually when people pass judgement on me based on my children I am quick to point my finger in my wife’s direction but she was in the same boat I was in. Also it is really hard to enjoy my kid opening presents when there are so many kids around her trying to grab her new toy out of her hand and yelling that they either want it or they already have one. Its like watching zombies attack the only human left on earth. I seriously asked my brother for his taser.

After the presents where opened I spent the next hour opening all the presents out of their packaging so my daughter could play them. I must say that the toy companies don’t need to worry about someone stealing their stuff cause they may it very impossible to their toys out. so many rubber bands, plastic twists, and tape make it very impossible. You need a knife to open this stuff.

Finally the party was over and we were left to clean up. I remember just sitting on the couch and thanking the Lord I made it through another party alive. Then I looked over and saw happy my daughter was. I smiled as she came over to me and sat on my lap and kissed me on the cheek. We stared at each other and then she said she wanted a Belle themed party next year!

Help me.

My Top 5 TV Reunions I Want To See

As most of you have already read the news online (If not, click here.). Disney is trying to do a spinoff of the popular show Boy Meets World. It got me remembering my friday nights laughing at Cory, Shawn, and Topanga as they went through their lives trying to make sense of it. I also laughed every time I heard the famous “Feeny call”.  The new show would focus on Cory and Topanga’s daughter and it is titled Girl Meets World. It would not be that bad to have the old gang come back and my a few guest appearances. I could use some more Mr. Feeny knowledge in my life.

There was another show that I loved and I somehow think it prepared me for adulthood and that is Friends. Even today I watch the reruns on TBS and laugh like I never heard them before. The cast needs a reunion soon. It would totally make my life. There is something about Chandler’s humor, Monica’s OCD, Joey being a womanizer, Pheobe’s silly songs and out of this world phrases that make this show so funny. Then tie it up with the romance of Ross and Rachel and you have a hit.

Another reunion that I would love to see is the Tanner Clan from Full House. It has been 25 years since the show first aired and even though most of the cast got together for an off-screen reunion this year, it would be nice to see a made for TV movie about where these characters  ended up. Maybe in the movie they can play that sappy music they play at the end of episodes when it gets to real to solve a problem in 30 minutes.

I keep having my fingers crossed for more information about a 24 movie. I loved that show and the characters. Jack is and will always be my favorite CTU agent. They really need to get on the ball and make this movie so I can go on living.

The show I wish to see bring the entire cast together is Buffy The Vampire Slayer. That show is awesome and when it was on I never missed an episode. I know that a lot of the cast has gone on to bigger and better things but it would be nice to return to Sunnydale one more time. This was the one show that I have on DVD still to this day. I guess if I want to see this reunion the closest thing I can get to it is watching How I Met Your Mother. They always have people from the Buffy universe on there.

The Friends That Change Everything!

Cattie, Tristan, and I on my 23rd Birthday!

One thing I have blessed to have in my life is really good friends that I can count on. They may be a small group but I know they will always have my back. I moved from a small town to get an education. I never knew that I would meet some people that would change my life forever.

Cattie has been there through everything. She always knows what to say and what to do. She sometimes can be tough skin but other times she can show she is just human. I never had a friend that could make me laugh like her. She is very career oriented and always follows her heart. She is very creative and always pushes to be the best. She is her own person and is always marching to the beat of her own drum. Some people think it is weird to have a best friend that is a girl but I consider it a balance. I get to see the world through her eyes. She is one of those friends that I know is not going anywhere.

Tristan is a the friend I consider to be wild. He does everything at a drop of a hat. He lives life with such ease and does not care what people think. He is very good outdoors and loves to travel and see the world. He loves music and likes to push the limits. He knows how to have a good time and to be serious. He keeps me grounded and shows me that life can be fun when you least expect it. He voices his opinion no matter if you like it or not.

Chris has been my friend since high school. For ten years we have been through a lot and friendship has always remained strong. He is a gentle soul and would give you the shirt off his back if you asked him to. I know that no matter what time of day it would be, he would be there.

As time has moved us on, we still feel like that small family. I know in my heart that will remain friends until are eighty. I find it very funny that we meet people who change our lives forever. We take these people with us through life and the cool thing is that we all are just enjoying the ride but the ride is only fun if you have close friends to enjoy it with you.
