Going Through The Holidays

It has been a while since my last post and a lot has happened. The holidays are full swing here at our house but lets catch up first.

Halloween was a lot of fun. I dressed us as Flynn Rider while K-Dub dressed like Rapunzel. Evie was Mickey Mouse and BrittWhitFun was a witch. Check out our pics.

No Halloween could be complete without some pumpkin carving and trunk or treating with the nephews.

Thanksgiving is and will always be my favorite holiday and this year was no exception. I made lunch for about 10 people and I made all the fixings. I made the turkey, Mac and cheese, green beans, stewed cabbage, mash potatoes, and rolls. I also made cake pops for the kids, a butterfinger cheesecake, and a apple pie. It was so good I spent the rest of the afternoon passed out on the couch.

Now we are at Christmas and our house is in the full Christmas spirt. The gifts are bought, tree is up, and the lights are shining outside.

Got some great stories coming on the blog this week after having a reader reach out to me wanting an update. Stay tuned.

Waking Up To The Time Change

20131106-101759.jpg

I have to say that I am loving this new time change. Every year I forget about how much I love this time of year. It’s so nice to leave the house and it be daylight. You also get to see amazing sunrises like the one above.  The only bad thing about this time change is that I am ready for bed by 7:00 and K-Dub is ready for bed around 5:00. This makes bed time for her easier and staying up for me hard.

This week has been a very trying one. I have been spending most of my time recovering from my recent trip to the emergency room. I am telling you that having a strained lumbar muscle in your back is no fun. I hate taking pills and my first experience taking a muscle relaxer was not a pleasant one. My wife will tell you it was a hilarious one.

BritWhitFun’s birthday was Sunday and we went out to dinner with her mom. It was a good time and I ate way too much. I feel bad that those meds made me feel so loopy that I was not much fun. I promised my wife I would make it up to her. I did however get some good sleep.

We are quickly trying to get rid of our Halloween candy. I been sending some home with every visitor. I have also been eating a piece here and there. That last sentence was a lie. I have been the main one who has been dipping in the candy bowl. Dont’ judge me.  I have also started to get my menu together for Thanksgiving and plan on calling in BritWhitFun to help me with some coupons. I am trying to have a great Thanksgiving feast without declaring bankruptcy. Its been hard cause I have a feeling that this is going to be stressful.

As you can see that the blog has a new look. What do you think?

Our Yabba Dabba Doo Halloween!

20131101-105419.jpg

Well Halloween has come and passed but it sure was fun. As you can see we were The Flintstones for Halloween. I have to say my little Pebbles looked really cute. After we got dress we went to Trunk-or-Treat at the local church and had a great time showing off our costumes to the community. People gave us lots of compliments and said that we were really cute. I think the real stars of the night were of course the babies. K-Dub and HJ who really looked cute with their Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm costumes on. We of course had to stop by Aunt E to see her Christmas decorated trunk.

After we left the church we stop by my mom’s house so she could see us. She was sitting outside in the driveway handing out candy to the local kids. She got her picture made with Pebbles and just said that she was too cute.

Oh, and when I was at work we had a pumpkin carving contest and one team made this really cute pumpkin in the shape of a Big Mac. It was the most original pumpkin I have seen in a long time. They won a free pizza lunch and they deserve it!

How was your Halloween? What did you dress up as? Ours was fun and it will always be one that K-Dub will remember for the rest of her life. If not, I could always just show her this blog entry. As for now I will be taking down the Halloween stuff this weekend to make room for my favorite holiday which is Thanksgiving. This year it is going to be hosted at my house so I have a feeling its going to be very stressful. In the meantime don’t get full on candy!

The Great Scarecrow Race Of 2013 And My Annual Holiday Rant!

20131023-082352.jpg

So yesterday I shared that BritWhitFun and I spent our weekend celebrating our favorite season of the year. We took K-Dub to the pumpkin patch and got some pumpkins to decorate the front of the house. If was an all day process on Monday but there was one thing our little front door display was missing. After much debate and brainstorming, I decided to find a scarecrow and put it on the bale of hay. This sounds easy right? I had no idea that this was going to be a journey of epic proportions.

Our journey started after we left the pumpkin patch. I was so excited that I could barely contain myself. I love holidays and decorating is so much fun! Our first stop was a Big Lots. We ran inside thinking that they would be at the center of the store. After about five minutes of walking we could not find the Halloween stuff. We walked to the back corner to find one aisle of Halloween decorations but no scarecrows. I went to the other side of the aisle to find a Christmas bomb had went off for the next three aisles. If you remember last year when I wrote about how it was not even Thanksgiving yet and Christmas was already everywhere. I guess this year the Christmas rush is starting early.

After we left Big Lots feeling sad, we rode over to Wal-Mart and ran into the garden center area to find it had been redecorated for Christmas. Nothing fall related was out. I could not believe it. I had to walk all the way to the front of the store only to find that the only outside decorations they had were those tacky inflatable ones. I was starting to feel that this was a lost cause.

The last place we checked was Dollar General and that was a bust. I got home and felt defeated. I asked my Facebook friends where to find a scarecrow. Most of them said to go to Old Time Pottery or AC Moore. I will be making the trip this weekend. It amazes me how stores are already done with Halloween, skipped Thanksgiving and already set for Christmas. On the bright side I did get some amazing Duke ornaments for my tree this year.

Update I found a scarecrow today at Old Time Pottery.

Nothing Beats A Fall Celebration!

20131022-093214.jpg

This weekend was a fun filled one. We had a lot going on. We decided to kick our celebration of fall in high gear. This eventful weekend started with a trip to the Fall Festival at Lake Park. They had a bunch of free rides for the kids. BritWhitFun, K-Dub and I met my sister in law, niece and mom at the event. We watched as Charlee Bell (my niece) played mini golf, went down a huge sliding board, jumped around in a bounce house, and rode the carousel. We were not completely bored as BritWhitFun took K-Dub for a ride on the carousel and she loved it. I will post a video soon.

Sunday was a very much laid back day as we spent the majority of it watching football and sleeping. There is nothing like watching football while lying on the couch. It just screams fall.

Yesterday I went shopping to decorate the front of my house for Halloween. I got some hay and went to target and got a huge light up pumpkin to put outside our house. I was still missing something.

That night after K-Dub’s nine month check up we we took her to the pumpkin patch to get some pumpkins to finish off the front if the house. She had a ball as we for her one that was just her size. After we left and put them out on the front porch, still feel like something is missing. I have decided to get a scarecrow to put out there but that story is for tomorrow.

So it looks like we are almost ready for Halloween. We are waiting for our costumes to come in and can’t wait for you see. It’s going to be a great Halloween. I just know it.

Is It Christmas Time Already? Really?

Can I at least finish my Halloween candy first? I am never one to complain but I think that Christmas seems to be popping around way to earlier that usual this year. It seems as soon as the clock turned to midnight on Halloween night, the Christmas commercials already started. I looked at my TV and secretly wished that the Christmas themed “Target Dog” would pee on the newly lit Christmas tree. I guess that was too much to wish about. Then ABC Family has this dumb thing called countdown to the 25 days of Christmas, which really means that they are going to play the same dumb movies on the countdown that they play when it is actually Christmas time. The only difference is that I am sure one of those weekends will be Harry Potter Weekend!

After Halloween I had  some crazy cold starting and sent my wife to Target to get me some medicine. When arrived she told me that not only was she being pushed and shoved by the Black Turkey people( Black Turkey is the day after Halloween. It’s when all the Halloween candy is 50% off. It’s the Black Friday for fat people.), but she also got stuck behind people buying the newly put up ornaments and wrapping paper holders. Has it already begun?

I am setting at work today and I start to get really sleepy(Let me remind you I have a cold.) so I decide to head to the Starbucks downstairs only to find that they already have their Christmas flavors and signature “red cups” out. Where is my Pumpkin Spice Latte? Where did you go? What the hell is a Gingerbread Latte?

After almost having a nervous breakdown in the middle of Starbucks, I retreated back to my desk empty-handed to get ready for a meeting. I step into my meeting room only to be greeted by the sound of holiday music? Really? Then the conductor of the meeting starts talking about what her kids want for Christmas. She then proceeds to pull out a Toys-R-Us toy book to show what her snot noise kids have circled. Really?

So I ask again, Can I cut my damn turkey first before I even begin to start thinking about Christmas? I love the holiday don’t get me wrong but with the way Christmas has been shoved down my throat the past few days, I just rather wait and put up the tree, try a gingerbread latte, rock out to Jingle Bell Rock, the day after Thanksgiving so I can enjoy the holidays like they are intended to be enjoyed. One at a time!

Happy Halloween!

Well it’s that time of year again! I love Halloween but it is not my favorite holiday but this year I had a lot of fun.

I got this morning and put on my costume which was Honey Boo Boo’s dad. I thought about that one myself. I went to work where we had our fall festival in our department. We had a puzzles to do and we had a potluck lunch. One of the most fun things we had was a pumpkin carving kit which me and my coworker Lucia got to represent out team.

We worked really hard for the one hour we had to finish the project. And this is the finish product.

We actually won the contest and it was fun. We won a pizza party for our entire team. I did loose the costume contest which means that I am going to have to try harder next year.

I came home and helped my wife pass out candy and then we ate dinner. My 29 weeks pregnant wife had to go to bed so I decided to end my fright night with the classic movie Halloween. I hope you enjoyed your holiday as much as I did mine!
