Back At It Again

It has been a long time since my last entry. There really are no other excuses other then life happens and that sometimes breaks are a must. That does not mean that I am not ever coming back. It just means that my time was spent on more important things like my kids and family.

There last entry I posted was in February and so many things have happened since then. Let me take a second and update you.

K-Dub is getting big. I sometimes cannot believe she is five cause I swear in the last few months she has hit a growth spurt. She looks more like she is 7. In my last update I told you she was starting dance. She has since had her first ever recital and loves it. We have plans for her to re-enroll in the fall.

Speaking of enrollment… K-Dub is starting Kindergarten in less then three weeks! Where did the time go? We were very lucky she got accepted at one of the local charter schools near where we live. She is excited and this weekend I am going to start gathering her school supplies while BrittWhitFun gets her school uniforms. I just can’t believe that we are finally at this moment and it makes me sad and joyful.

Evie is a force of nature. She has been getting big also. She has really come around on the loving Dad front and now she never wants to leave my side unless Mom is around. She has been really trying to grasp this whole potty training thing. She has #1 down by #2 has been a really struggle for not only her but for Mom and Dad. I may have stepped on poop while putting her on the potty. It just kind of rolled out of her underwear. Sorry. I hope you were not eating when you read this.

We have tried to transition Evie from her crib to toddler bed but it was a disaster so we decided to keep the crib a little longer. She is just not ready and until she is fully potty trained she really needs to stay in her crib.

Here are some of the other highlights of the past few months:

My SIL got married back in April.

K-Dub learned to swim

My brother and I could not be better

My brother dressed like a lady for charity

I decided to take on swimming

Easter was a lot of fun.

We went to the Zoo

I won Coordinator of the Quarter

Had a great Mother’s Day Mingle At The Mint Event

Got a Vasectomy and my wisdom teeth out in the same month

K-Dub graduated from Preschool

BrittWhitFun and I celebrated 7 years of marriage

I tried float therapy and like it and did not drown

I did a build for Habitat for Humanity

Enjoyed 4th of July with friends

What is next for the family? We have a lot of things coming up. K-Dub starting school, Evie is turning 3 and we are heading back to Disney World in less then 90 days and I am not even close to being ready!

As always comments are appreciated and I can’t wait to here from you.

Exploring Charleston

As. you could tell from last weeks posts it was mine and BrittWhitFun’s anniversary. We decided that instead of taking the usually trip to the beach to go somewhere we both have never been. So after some talking my wife decided to book us a weekend in Charleston, SC. I have always heard that Charleston was a beautiful town that was full of local artist, good food, and some great local beer. I have to say that after a long weekend I have never been more sick of food and beer but it the greatest way possible.

We arrived in Charleston Friday afternoon. We were both starving. We decided to stay in Mt. Pleasant cause it was cheaper and there were plenty of stuff to do here also. The first place on our list was some good lunch. After some suggestions from our friends we ended up at Shem’s Creek Bar and Grill. I of course had to try shrimp and grits for the first time and it did not disappoint. We sat near the water and watched people paddle board in the creek. I tried an IPA called Damn Yankee that was very good.

After lunch we headed to Isle of Palms beach. This beach was cool. There were plenty places to park(for a $1.50) and lots of shops. The beach as amazing. The sand was so soft. My wife and I took a long nap on the beach and just relaxed with one another.

Soon it was time for dinner. We headed to our hotel and checked in and then went to Melvin’s Ribs and Que. It was a lot of food and I could not even finish it but it was good what I ate. Then we went to a bar and had some drinks and desert. before calling it a night.

The next day we got dressed and headed to Charleston. We stopped first at Another Broken Egg Cafe. After waiting for a table for an hour and another hour for our food we indulged in a cinnamon roll that was out of this world followed by a Hello Lucy. The food was worth the wait! So good and I wanted to steal there little cute mugs but my wife told me we did not need another one.

After breakfast/lunch we explored the market place. I loved this place cause it was nothing but local artist and chiefs. We bought a few gifts for some loved ones and ourselves and I did manage to get a nice coffee cup. We even found a cool Charleston Christmas store and bought some ornaments for our tree this year.

We managed to find a cool wine bar and sat down and enjoyed a couple of glasses before heading out to see some sites.

The first place we went to was Washington Square Park. This place was so cool and it had plenty of shade. It was behind this beautiful church. After cooling off we headed to Waterfront Park which had an awesome view of the water, a pier, two splash pads, and a water taxi. It was just so neat to walk through.

By this time we were tired so we got to our car and went to Starbucks and grabbed some iced coffees. I fell asleep cause according to my wife I can fall asleep anywhere. True story.

I had made dinner reservations for us at an upscale restaurant called Magnolia’s. So we headed back into downtown and made our way there. We had some great martinis to start us off. We then were seated and indulged ourselves in some fried Mac and cheese and palmetto chesse, which now that I am typing this makes it sound bad for my stomach. My wife got a salad and I got buttermilk fried chicken that was out of this world. I wish I could have stopped myself long enough to take a picture of it. So good.

After dinner we went to the hotel and chilled out for a little and then headed back to Isle of Palms again. This time we just got some ice cream at Ben and Jerry’s and walked on the beach and looked for shells. It started to get dark and we headed back to our hotel for some rest.

I must say it was a great vacation with my wife. It is not every day we get to have some alone time. She did a great job about being away from the girls all weekend. Sunday she was ready to get home and I really can’t blame her. I was missing them also. It was a great anniversary with my love. I still can’t believe we made it to six years and I can’t help but feel we are only getting started.

To Be A Simple Husband

I really never blog about my relationship with my wife but today is an exception. I have been married to the love of my life for almost six years and I have to say that it has not always been good. I have learned so much from her about what being a husband is and what I am suppose to do. One thing that sticks in my head all the time is to just be a “Simple Husband”

Being a simple husband is just being there when she needs me. To comfort her and to hold her when things don’t always go according to plan. For example, our second miscarriage before we had Evie was devastating and more then likely the scariest day of my life. I just remember sobbing with her in the parking lot of the hospital. Holding her hand as she hunched over in pain. I did not have to say anything but I was just there for her.

Sometimes being a simple husband means you need to stop talking which is hard for me cause I am a very opinionated person. I like to make sure I am heard and that is not always smart. My wife use to come home from her former job and complain and complain and I had to learn to just listen and agree with her even if I knew there was a slight chance she was wrong. It was not always easy but sometimes the best thing you can do is just be an ear.

My wife is a selfless person. She drops everything to help someone. When my car broke down last weekend she rushed herself and the kids to get down to the beach to help me. She did not ask questions or argue with me. She made her way to get to me. To be there for her man. It ended up being a good time with our little family and to be honest she kept me sane. I think I thanked her like 20 times for coming and saving me.

I am not always good at being a simple husband. I like to stay in my own feelings and not listen. I struggle everyday to be better. It is a process and one I have yet to master. I love my wife and I am a very happily married man but like anything in like it takes practice and work. I never want to be one of those husbands who quit trying. I will always try cause my wife and my little family are worth it. I will always strive to be a simple husband.

Happy Friday!

A Step Back

Well I am really surprised I have any readers out there at all. My wife actually made the comment to me yesterday that it had been a while since I last blogged. Our little family has gone through some major changes.

In case you have not followed me on social media lately, then you must know that I got an amazing promotion at work and now I am full time! This year has been hard and with the power of prayer and a lot of hard work I managed to score this amazing opportunity. I can’t wait to see what happens next as I continue to grow and learn more about the exciting world of advertising! Now I have to get use to working 8 hours again, fighting traffic, and getting up early.

Also I found out why my leg has been bothering me. My knee started to swell last week and it was really hurting. I found that my knee and entire leg became inflamed. The reason was that I was doing way too much exercising. So now I have cut back on my routine. Now I am just doing my cool down run  and my long. run. Today is the first day I feel like I could run again, which is good because my marathon is less then 8 weeks way! So this week I am back to hitting the pavement and I could not be more ready.

We are only 3 short weeks away from Baby E coming! We are in crunch mode as we finish her room, wash her clothes, fold her blankets, and bring out the high chair. Things are changing at our house. As the days get closer I am getting more scared and excited. I am ready to meet her but I am dreading the lack of sleep that any parent will tell you is a real struggle.

There are a lot of things to be thankful for and a lot to be scared about. Thanks to everyone who has kept my family in your prayers and continued to support us. You love and encouragement means the world to us!

Another Year Of Married Bliss

untitled shoot-0303-2

Well its hard to believe we made it another year!

Not really cause I have the best wife ever! She puts up with all my crazy ideas with love and support!

My wife is the best for many reasons. She is a wonderful mother to our daughter, a caring sister, a loving friend, and one of the most selfless people I know. She is my rock and I would not be the person I am today without her. I am so proud to be your husband.

Happy 3 years to my amazing wife!

I look forward to many more years with you!

One Of Those “My Wife Was Right” Moments

Yes the following tweet was true.

As many of you know, I have been trying to run 50 miles in one week so I have spent a lot of my time at the gym. I have already lost close to 45 pounds and my wedding ring is starting to be very loose on me.  My wife has been telling me to take it off and leave it at home so I don’t lose it.  I have not listened to her at all.

Last night I was running my 4 miles when my wedding ring felt really lose. I took it off and put it in the storage compartment on the treadmill. Once I finished my run, I grabbed my gym bag and started to head to the door.

I got home and started to make dinner when I looked down and realized that I left my ring at the gym. Without letting BrittWhitFun suspect anything, I sneaked away from the kitchen and called the gym and they had already found it. I told them to hold it and I would come and get it tomorrow night.

When I returned to the kitchen and my wife noticed the my ring was gone. It was like her “wifey sense” was tingling.  I told what happened and she turned her head and said that if I would have listened to her in the first place then it would have not happened. I just hung my head in shame and quietly made my dinner.

As a husband, I have had a lot of these moments where I should have listen to my wife. I don’t know if this is their super power or if they just know more than their husbands but one thing is always right. Your wife is always right and when she is not right his still is right!

Valentine’s Day Is Exhausting!

photo 2

Since that crazy snow storm came through, I quickly ran out of time to go shopping for Valentine’s Day. I have never been one of those guys that wait til the last-minute but this year was not my fault. I was snowed in against my will and could not get to the store. What was a guy to do?

I did make plans for Valentine’s Day by arranging a hotel room for BrittWhitFun and I. This was a big deal for my wife cause it was going to be the first time she was going to leave the baby overnight. I jut needed to get other stuff like a nice card and maybe some of her favorite candies.

I went to the local Wal-Mart and managed to get in. I say that cause you would not believe all the males that were in there. Every guy had a teddy bear, a rose, a card, and a heart shaped box of chocolate in their hand as they fought their way to the front of the store. I quickly grabbed some candy and a card and threw a few elbows to get what I wanted and headed to the front. I even managed to grab a bottle of wine and some decorative rose petals. If you are going to do Valentine’s Day then you have to do it right. I waited in line for about twenty minutes at the “speedy” checkout and left unharmed.

Once I arrived at the hotel after being stuck in some leftover snow for 30 minutes, I checked in and decorated the room and gotta shower and a quick workout at the downstairs hotel gym and rush off to pick up my Valentine. Once I got her we went and had a not so quite dinner at the Stone Mountain Grill where we fed our faces like it was going out style. After we went back to the hotel  and that is all there is left to say about that.

Every year on Valentine’s Day I have a tradition where I get K-Dub a book and a card. The book usually has a Valentine’s Day theme and I put the year in the corner along with a special message from Daddy. I went to Target and found a book that was so cute called I Love You So… She loved it and I love giving it to her. It’s just a special thing from her Daddy to her.

So that was Valentine’s Day and I have to say that after doing all that, I was so tired but I would not trade those smiles on my wife and daughter’s face to save my life. Worth every elbow thrown.
