The Big 31 Birthday Week!

It is that time again! Its the day of all days. My birthday! Actually it was this past Sunday but you understand. Everyone knows that I love my birthday. Besides Thanksgiving, it is the one holiday I look forward to every year and yes I did call it a holiday. How could you not love your birthday? It is the one day out of the whole year where it is all about you. You get tons of free stuff and cake…CAKE! I maybe seriously into fitness but I love some darn cake.

Anyway, this week has great so far. Not only did I celebrate my birthday BUT I got some great news at the doctor, and I even started cooking more for the family.

My birthday was great. I woke up to the sound of “Happy Birthday” being sang by my wife and K-Dub. After that they took me downstairs where I was greeted with some very good birthday pancakes and eggs, my favorite breakfast. After guzzling them down we got dressed and dropped the kids off at my SIL Kate’s house. My wife planned a nice lunch for me but I don’t know if I could eat it after that amazing filling breakfast.

We pulled in to my favorite restaurant since I was a kid, Carraba’s! I know many of you have ate at their hundreds of locations. Why is it my favorite? One of the many reasons is because I have never had a bad experience and my birthday was not exception. The last time I had been here was when wife surprised me on my birthday back in 2011 right before we got married. 5 years later and here we are again. Of course I had to dive in and get my favorite appetizer, calamari with lemon pepper butter sauce. It was just how I remembered it. Zesty and spicy but also no over powering. Moving on to entrees I had another favorite which is the chicken bryan. This dish is what introduced me to the amazing world of goat cheese. It is the creamiest and most flavorful cheeses to cook with and it was complemented well with the sun-dried tomatoes. After we ate our main course we enjoyed a nice cocktail. You have to have a cocktail on your birthday. So on those rare occasions when I drink I love to go for a nice martini. The pomegranate martini is amazing. It is sweet but also will catch up to you quick it you have too many.

After finishing off much with some desert, we drove out to Rea Road and to the Stonecrest shopping center where I was treated to Star Wars: Rogue One. It was a great movie and the iner geek in my was thrilled to have seen it in IMAX with those cool 3D glasses. When the movie was over we retreated back to get out children and headed home.

Now I told you i love cake so my wife surprised me with a cake and I was sang “Happy Birthday” to again. I am definitely going to need to go for a run to burn all these extra calories this week!

The next day I do what I do every year. It was time for my annual trips to the doctor’s office. I always try to go and knock them all out in one day. So the first one I saw was my medical doctor.

Before I finish this story I have to say that for the past eight years I have been dealing with a major heart issue known as A-Fib. It is where one of the valves in your heart can get out of rhythm and flutter around to where you feel like you can’t catch your breath. It is very scary.

So after telling my doctor about my family’s issues with heart disease and diabetes, my doctor wanted to give me an EKG. I hate these things cause to be honest I have hair on my chest and those stupid sticky sensors really hurt to pull off. After it was over I figured the doctor would tell me what I already know and that is that I have A-Fib and that maybe it had gotten worse and i needed to have a primary cardiologist. What the doctor actually said was that there was no signs of A-Fib on the EKG at all. I was in shock. I am still not completely out of the woods cause I do have a low heart rate and my doctors does want me to follow up with a cardiologist to make sure everything is ok but for right now I would consider this a win!

I am also happy to say that starting at the end of the month I am participating in a “Dad Bod Challenge”. I am thrilled and excited and ready to learn. The challenge is for 21 days and it is me along with other dads around the country. We will be learning about nutrition, exercise and other ways to increase metabolism. I can’t wait to get started. I am going to be posting my before and after pics so you can see the results.

This weekend I will be getting things ready for K-Dub’s birthday party next weekend. Can you believe she is going to be four years old? Where has the time gone? I wish she could stay small forever. Anyways, I have to call and order a cake, nugget and fruit trays, build a princess dollhouse and send out invites. I love planning my kids birthday parties. They are always a lot of fun and this year we having it somewhere other then my house. YAY!

Daddy And Daughter Movie Night

After a crazy week at the office and all the stuff going on with my mom I needed a night out with one of my special ladies. She is smart, funny, and loves to carry on a conversation. My wife was busy so K-Dub.

I really have not seen her lately. With late visits at the hospital I have missed dinner and bedtime with her. So tonight I asked her if she wanted to go on a date with daddy and the excitement on her face was enough to melt my heart.

We went to the movies and saw The Secret Life Of Pets and it was cute. I bought K-Dub a little kids try with popcorn, candy and a drink and she sat in my lap and did not move.

Afterwards we went to the grocery store and headed home. She told me that she liked our date and wanted to do it again soon. I can’t wait!

Flintstone Feet Of Future’s Past

Ok I know that everyone is really tired of hearing about my crazy foot pain the week so I have one last story and then I am done talking about I promise.

I went to work yesterday dealing with pain. I could not even put my tennis show on cause it was so swollen. So I ended up leaving early from work and heading to Urgent Care to get it checked. It turns out it was gout. I thought it was. So I got the usual prescription and left.

My dad surprised me with a free ticket to see the new X-Men movie. I had already promised him I would go and plus it was the freaking X-Men! So we got there early and I listen to my dad give me spoilers of upcoming episodes of Game of Thrones and recap the the entire latest season of Two and Half Men. Does anyone still watch that? Soon the movie started.

Right before the ending I felt like I was going to cry. Now because of the movie, even though it was awesome enough to, but because my pain went from an 8 to a 12. Finally the movie was over and I looked down and my foot had swelled up even more than what it was. I looked like Fred Flintstone. So I had to limp back to the car.

I wish I got a picture of how big it was so you guys did not think I was just being a little bitch. Today I look better and I can actually walk on it without looking like Little Moe with the gimpy leg.

Ok I am done. No more talk about my crazy foot issue anymore. Just take two things away from this post. They are that gout sucks and the new X-Men movie is awesome!

Romantic Night In!

So with our crazy work schedules, my gym routine, taking care of K-Dub, and cleaning the house, BrittWhitFun and I don’t get a lot of time to spend together. We are constantly on the go and talk on the phone at least twice during the day. It usually is in the morning as I am driving to work and in the afternoon as I am driving home. When you have a child you are always trying to find ways to save money and cut cost but you sometimes are in a desperate need to spend some time alone with your spouse.

This is the dilemma that my wife and I were in. We were in a funk and needed to shake it up a bit. Of course we had to do this on budget.  We also had a kid at home and not sitter. So Friday night my wife had to go to Sam’s Club and I had to go to the grocery store. I told her let’s go one a “at home” date. She went to Panera Bread and got some take-out food and met me at the house. I got our groceries for the week and stopped by our local Redbox and got a movie to rent.

After putting the kid to bed, we got our food and popped our movie in and ate. I rented the comedy We’re The Miller” so we laughed almost the entire time. I never get tired of hearing my wife laugh. It’s a cute laugh. We then sat and talked about stuff and played catch up with this weeks events. I had no idea about some of the things going on with my wife. It’s great that we talk and then we headed to bed a little closer and stronger.

I am very grateful to have some time alone with my wife and she is a lot of fun. It is hard sometimes to find the time but I found that in marriage you have to make the time. Even when you have to spend the time alone at home with no sitter.

Just Think Turtleneck Sweater!- My Experience In Birthing Class

So I have been meaning to explain the what happened to Brittney and I when we went to Birthing Class for the first time. I know this is not really relevent since our kid has been our of the womb for two months but maybe this story will help another future dad from making the same mistakes I did.

When we arrived at the class, which was all the way in Downtown Charlotte, we found our way to the classroom. This room looked more like a torture chamber with its posters of naked women’s insides and instruments that I have never seen nor heard of. I quickly looked at Brittney and pointed to the door but she pointed to our seat. I tucked my tail between my legs and sat down.

Many couples came pouring in the room in less than 20 minutes. Some of these women looked like they were going to pop and I kept thinking to myself that if one of these women went into labor right now I would be home in 30 minutes to catch the last end of How I Met Your Mother. I would only be so lucky. I looked at the pregnant women’s baby daddies and they looked less thrilled to be her than I did. Some even held their head down in shame.

When our teach came in and introduced herself, I just remember thinking to myself, thank God she does not have a lisp like the women on the movie “Baby Mama”. I now think it would have been more entertaining. We will refer to her in this post as Patty. Patty opened the class with a brief introduction of herself and then we went around the room and introduced ourselves.

Names have been changed due to my lack of memory and fun of making crap up.

Ron and Tammy were having a girl. They were married and she was 34 weeks. Ron looked like he was a member of the Persian Mafia.

Doug and Carrie did not know what they were having and I still do not think the element of surprise is something a new parent needs to be faced with. Carrie was 35 weeks and from what I could tell the two kids liked their baby was a result of a random hookup at the club.

Kelly and Zack were 31 weeks and expecting twin boys! Enough said.

Ross and Rachel were having a girl and were that married couple you hear about in books that you either want to say “Awwwwww” or punch them in the face!

Marshall and Lily were expecting a boy and had were thinking about having a water birth. Thats all I have to say about that.

Patty then proceeded to show posters of what the cervix looks like at 10 cm. She kept telling us to think of it like a turtleneck sweater. This ruined it for me and I still to this day cannot look at a turtleneck sweater the same. It would have not that bad if the pictures were not real.

Patty then proceeded to show us a video of a live birth. Here it was ladies and gentlemen! The moment I had been dreading since Brittney got pregnant. The stupid “live birth” video. I looked down at the ground and took a few deep breaths. Patty told us to give our expectant mother some ice chips during the video. I looked a Brittney and said that she might need to save these for me when I pass out.

About 30 minutes later the movie was over. Both Brittney and I had frozen looks of discuss on our faces. I could not believe people call this a beautiful process cause there is nothing beautiful about what I saw on that screen. I was frozen in horror and just remembered thanking my luck stars that I would not have to go through this myself. I am a strong believer that there is a reason women have the babies.

After the video, Patty went and showed us the length of the epidural needle and that at the time did not seem that bad. Shen then opened the floor for questions and after an additional 45 minutes I was about ready to kill someone if they asked another question that they could have answered at home by just going to

They way home Brittney and I talked about the stuff we just learned and the graphic pictures we just witnessed. We both felt more confident with the birth of our child but one thing we learned that was most important was that things can change in a second behind the doors of a delivery room.
