This past weekend was my nephews birthday party. No they are no twins but their birthdays are like two weeks apart so my SIL like to do one big birthday party and to be quite frank, I do not blame her.
So the theme for their party was superhero. Man I wish I had boys so I could do cool themes like this. You can only be a princess so many times before you want to move on.
The party was so much fun and very hot as the whole thing was outside on my FIL’s farm. I love that farm. They have a ton of land and it is so peaceful unlike the loud suburbs we live in. To start things off we indulge ourselves in watermelon, funny cut shaped PB&J sandwiches, chips, and deli meat pinwheels. My SIL knows how to party.
After we ate, we began to to tractor rides around in the field.
And horse rides for the kids…
and adults..meaning me.
Then we had some really good cake.
I think my nephews had a great party. I am looking forward to spoiling them this coming weekend at the beach.
It is not every day I get to spend the entire afternoon with just my nephew but this past weekend was one of those rare occasions. We met up with my SIL and BIL at the park the other day and let the kids play and run any excess energy they had out. It also gave us adults some time to chat. My nephew Holden and K-Dub where playing and having a great time like always.
When it came time to leave I may have invited my nephew over to hang with me not thinking he would actually want to. He is three and his parents, especially his mom, are his world. The was a very good lesson for me cause he actually said yes and I would have looked like a complete A-hole if I said no.
So after we all went to lunch together, his parents dropped him off at my house and went on their way to do some shopping. My wife and kids had a birthday party to go to and I was left with Holden. I had no idea what we where going to do. He looked at me and I asked hime. He said he wanted to go the movies.
We ended up going to the movies and seeing Boss Baby which was actually a great little movie. It was way better then I expected and it also gave me an opportunity to spoil my nephew with popcorn, candy and soda. He loved it.
After the movie I really wanted a cup of coffee and Holden may have let it slip that he wanted a cake pop. So being the cool uncle I am, we went to Starbucks.
When dropping him off he told me I was his best friend and showed me his new Captain America costume he got for Costume Day at school. I really ended up having a ton of fun with this kid.
I love all my nephews and nieces and sometimes it is just nice to take them and spoil them a little bit and work on our relationship. My mom once told me that every person you come in contact with, even if it was a bad contact, shape you to who you are and who you will be. I feel that I am shaping my nephew to be even more awesome then he already is.
I know I am a day late but I just had to say Happy Birthday to my first nephew, who just turned TWO!!!!! Where has the time gone? Holden is such a blessing to have in my life and I love the bond we have.
I have been away from the blog for a couple of weeks and I actually can’t blame it on my crazy marathon training schedule. I have been getting some time with the newest addition to our family and I am not talking about Everly Mae.
On May 24, my sister and brother in law welcomed their second son and my new nephew into the world. Gavin Luke is his name and all I can say is that he is perfect. Congrats to the happy family!
We’ll this is my second Father’s Day and it has been amazing. This is a very important holiday for me. It’s a time to celebrate all things DAD. I love being a dad and it’s one of jobs I take very seriously. It’s not so much of a job as it is a pleasure. The love you have for your child is one you would never trade not could ever explain. It’s always great to spend this one day a year to celebrate a man’s love for there child and everything they mean to them.
This morning I was awakened by my wife and daughter with smiles and kisses. I love those kisses. They are the best. Soon we went downstairs and my wife made me a special pancake breakfast. Then she gave me a nice big card the K-Dub made me that said “#1 DAD”. It was the best I could ask for.
My wife then surprised me with a trip to Starbucks on the way to church. She just knows how to make me feel special.
Now we are taking a trip that I will explain in my next entry. I am very excited cause I am in vacation for the next week and it’s a week full of fun and family time. Both are what this guy really needs.
So happy Father’s Day to all those other wonderful dads out their. Those blogger dads I follow, members of the Dads Round Table I follow on Twitter I just wanted to say happy Father’s Day. You guys are awesome and I would not be the dad I am today if it was not for support.
Also I can’t forget the dads I see on a regular basis who mean so much to me.
My father-in-law Ken who has showed me time and time again what it means to be a true family man and that nothing is more important.
My brother-in-law Spencer who is the best dad for my nephew. His work ethic is off the charts and is just a proven example that with a lot of hard work anything is possible.
My brother Brian who is the best example of a husband and father. My nieces are so lucky to have you. You are amazing and selfless.
And finally my dad who is my best friend. The one I can tell anything to. You have helped me so much over the years and your advice is treasured and needed. You are wonderful grandpa to K-Dub and I love you.
I never knew that in one year I could bond with someone that is not even my child. The bond we have as an uncle and nephew is something I will always treasure. You are so special and I can’t wait to see you learn more and more and grow.
I love being your favorite uncle and can’t wait to help teach you how to be man. You have the best parents in the world. They love you and would stop at nothing to make sure you are happy.
You aunt and I promise to be always be there for no matter what to provide a place where you can come and hang out and tell us what’s bothering you. We also promise to always have ice cream.
Happy first birthday my little buddy. Your Uncle T-Fun loves you very much.
As many of you know, I always tried to do at leat one fun activity with K-Dub on Monday. We go to the indoor pool at the gym, take a nice long walk in the neighborhood, or spend the day at the park. I have found it very easy to keep K-Dub active and entertained and she always finds away to make her Daddy exhausted. Although it is easy for me to find fun things to do with K-Dub on Mondays, my wife has had a rough time trying to find things that are not too pricy and fun to do with K-Dub on Saturdays.
I work every Saturday and my wife works on Mondays when I am off so we each try to make a special activity for us to do with K-Dub to get some quality time with our daughter. My wife most of the time just tries to find something for them to do around the house, like a craft, make some kind of new recipe, or almost 98% of the time my mother is there to see them.
Last weekend, my wife came up with a great idea. My mother-in-law was busy and was not able to make the long trip from Hickory to come for her visit, so my wife started to look on the internet for something for her and K-Dub to do. After a couple of hours of searching she found it. After finding her destination, she called her sister Kate and asked if she and my nephew, HJ would love to come. They agreed.
Where was this amazing place you ask? It was really amazing and a lot of fun. It was in the heart of the city of Charlotte. It was called Ray’s Splash Planet, which is an indoor water park and also a recreation center for Mecklenburg County residents.
I actually was able to get out of work early so I could go too. I met my wife and her sister and we left with the babies in tow. When we arrived there was hardly a place to park. We ended up parking at a local elementary school and walked over.
The line to get in was very unorganized, but once we finally got in it was worth it. They had a splash playground complete with little slides and tunnels. They had a big pool with a vortex that I did not care for. They had the big tube slides to go down. We stayed close to the kids who had a blast splashing around. They had so much fun that they passed out on the way home.
All and all it was a great day and will be back soon.
