Football, Splash Pads, & Life Lessons

Let me start by saying that I am sorry for not following up on this past weeks blogs. Things have been nuts around the house and and trying to find the time to blog and update you guys has become difficult but I will talk about that later.

Picking up from my previous entry, the past few weeks we were grieving the loss of Tanner and things are still not the same. You would think with all the losses that my family and I have had that we would be come pros with dealing with grief but it still is easy and I have come to the conclusion that it never will be.

Many people know that my relationship with my brother has never been the best and I am not going into much detail about it but just know that we did finally have a talk and decided that we don’t always have to hang out or see each other every day. I can work with this. After mending some fences he invited me to the open preseason Panther game and you know I love my Carolina Panthers!

I had a great time. Too much of a great time and maybe should have never drank that 6th beer. Anyways, I was really glad to spend some time with him and enjoy some football also.

Finally the weekend came along and we had another birthday party to go to. This time it was for my other niece Charlee as it was her birthday. I can’t believe my niece is going to be in 1st grade this year! Where has the time gone?

The party was fun and even I got on the splash pad and got soaked. My girls had a blast and it was great to be around family and friends.

One thing that I never stop doing is learning. I always try to learn life lessons and sometimes I learn thing even when I don’t want to. I have learned that no matter what happens to just forgive and move on. That does not mean keeping the person around but to not let that hurt control your everyday life. Just let it go. Now sometimes it is harder then others and I struggle myself sometimes but you need to let it go.

The other lesson I learned was to stay out of God’s business and other people’s business and just worry about your business. This has helped me at work. When something does not go my way I have to tell myself I cannot control other people and what they do. I can only control what I do and how I react. This is more then likely my biggest lesson to learn.

I have a lot of cool things happening on the blog soon. A lot of fun things with the kids that need a post so stay tuned.

The Past Week

First off let me start by saying thank you to all who called, emailed, texted, commented on our latest blog entry about losing Tanner. Our family really has felt loved. It has been an adjustment without him around but we are moving forward the best we can.

The past week has been insane. Football season has begun and I got the opportunity to go to the opening preseason game. It was a lot of fun.

I have recently stopped my individual plan at my crossfit gym and decided on a new goal. I am training for my first ever physique show in 2018. I have a new coach who has me working out six days a week and has me on a high protein and high calorie diet. I am very excited to step out of the realm of crossfit and start something that is extremely new to me. I have never worked out at a real gym before and I have already learned so much. I can’t wait to see my body change and compete at a whole new level.

My wife is continuing her weight loss journey and has lost over 10 pounds and continues to stay committed. I am so beyond proud of her and I really want her to they one the classes at the new gym cause I am sure she would love. Her meal prep skills are off the chain.

The girls are the girls. Evie is still sassy and mean but I love her. All K-Dub wants to do these days is watch Powerpuff Girls and do spin jumps.

More on some of the events tomorrow.

Super Run 4 Miler Recap

Well it was a very cold morning this past Sunday. I really excited about my first race of 2016 but not as excited to get out there in the freezing cold. BrittWhitFun and the kids came along to cheer me on which I am always grateful for.

For those who don’t know, this event is very new to Charlotte. Its only the second year they have done it and its always on Super Bowl Sunday! So the race is football themed of course which makes it more fun. So many people out there in their different jerseys makes it fun to see all the different types of football fans Charlotte has. Of course most of them were sporting their black and blue for those amazing Carolina Panthers! GO PANTHERS!

Registration for this event was quick and easy. I knew I wanted to do a fun race in February and this one seemed to stick out to me. If you registered early you got to get your name on your race bib and have your bib match the color of your favorite football team. You also got a very nice pint glass to drink your beer later that day and a nice comfortable shirt. The race also had a nice finish medal which you can see below.

We arrived at about 8:30 that morning and got the kids out and took the big one pee cause lets face it t hat is what every parent has to do when they get some where, The start line was close to my job so we went inside there to pee. By the time we made it to the start line people were every where. Food trucks and race vendors were out selling and promoting new events, music was playing, and people were on the ground stretching. This was my kind of event with my kind of people.

Ten minutes till the start time, we all started to line up. The announcer asked everyone to participate in the largest “dab” photo ever. it was fun. Soon the race was starting and everyone was taking off. The first mile was around Bank of America Stadium, which is a beautiful stadium. I was running full force and keep my 9:30ish pace very well. People were already starting to walk about to the halfway point. I told myself that I just ran a marathon two month ago and I should be able to handle four miles easy. Mile two took you past my Charlotte Observer office and down to Nascar Hall of fame which was mostly downhill and now it was more fun to run. I love downhill and the gentle feeling it gives on my legs.

When you turn on McDowell street you are in Mile three and this was where people started to fade. I struggled to cause when you go downhill you almost ways have to go back up the hill. The last half of mile three and all of mile four was up hill. I was still keeping my 9:30ish pace and I was push through. Many people who past me were walking and I was just pushing as far as my legs would go.

The hard last hill on mile 4
Finally I could see the stadium in my view and I new I was almost home! I ran past the Church Street and turned right and went for an all out sprint to the finish line and made it in 37:03! My best 4 miles ever! What a great way to start my Super Bowl Sunday with a great race and a fancy new medal!

All and all this was a fun and challenging race. Will I run it again next year? YES! I think this will be my new Super Bowl tradition besides eating a heck of a lot of chicken wings. At least now I can feel less guilty about it on Monday.

Shamrock 4 Miler Here I come!

1st race of 2016 DONE!!!!

Thanksgiving Blues

I have to say that every year around this time I get a little depressed. Don’t get me wrong, Christmas is great but there is just something about how the amazing holiday day known as Thanksgiving. Now that my turkey is all gone, stuffing is almost and there are no more pies I am a little sad.

As usual, I made a great meal and managed to nearly burn the house down while trying to make a cheesecake. The cheesecake was great but the house smelled like smoke for a day and a half. I got so many compliments on my turkey this year. Even people who said they did not eat turkey. That is always a great takeaway from thanksgiving. That’s the kind of magic I am talking about.

My sister in law and I tagged teamed it again. Both making out signature dishes. The only difference was this year she hosted it. It ended up being a blessing cause I was not stuck with the clean up. We gathered around and ate and watched the Carolina Panthers crush the Dallas Cowboys and claim their 11-0 victory.

The next day I spent getting Christmas decorations down from the attic and heading down to our local Christmas tree lot. It always makes me sick to my stomach at how fast we hurry to Christmas. It’s like thanksgiving does not matter at all.

Now that my tree is up, gifts are bought and I am rocking my almost two month old to sleep I can say that this holiday season I am going to make it my mission to concentrate on being thankful rather then selfish.

The Coldest Christmas Gift Ever

photo 2

Well this year my brother gave my dad and I our Christmas gift really early. I knew it was going to be tickets for something I just had no idea what to. To my surprise, he gave Dad and I tickets to the Panthers vs. Jets game. I am a huge Panther fan and I try to at least go to one game a season if it is possible. This was a great gift and one that I would never forget.

What made this gift awesome was the fact that I got to spend some time with my dad who is like my best friend. We have so much in common and I have always found it easy to talk to him about anything. We sat up in the stands and cheered on Cam Newton as he threw completed passes and yelled at the referees for their dumb calls. It was so much fun. Also, our team won, which is always an added bonus.

The only thing that was bad was that going to a football game in December sucks cause it was so cold. The more the sun went down the colder it got. I had to put my hands in a foam finger to keep them semi warm. It also did not help that we had to walk to and from the train. Next time I will have to be a little smarter and bring gloves. I was at least smart enough to bring a cap but not smart enough to keep up with it. I lost it before we even got on the train. I hope the person who found it at the local Hooters enjoys it.

How To Throw The Best Dad To Be Shower Ever!

Yesterday, my wife had her baby shower. This event lasted for about two hours so the question that came to me was what am I going to do? My best friend came into town from Anson and the plan was to play paintball. Paintball can get pretty expensive so we decided to go to a bar and watch the Panther game. Which bar you ask? Hooter’s of course.

This turned in to a Dad to be shower. What is that you ask? It is a shower for the soon to be new dad with three main ingredients which include beer, wings, and football. It was a lot of fun even if the Panthers lost to the Broncos. The food was amazing and spending time with my best friend of 12 years was great to.

After we left the restaurant we crashed my wife’s shower and stole all the gifts and rode dirty back to the house. It was fun. We then proceeded to put the stroller together that we got from my mother in law. Let me tell you that baby stuff is complicated to put together. It took two guys 20 minutes to unfold a stroller and was only able to after my wife came home and did it for us with no problem at all.

After finally getting it completed we started putting other gifts away like clothes and bath stuff. Finally I was able to make Karsyn’s room look more like a kids room rather than a spare guest room with a cage in it.

It seems everything is coming together. Now we just have a few more things to do before Karsyn gets here and we can relax and just wait. We have another baby class this week so I will be sure to tell you my experiences as I throw up at the sight of a video vaginal birth.
