I Am A Tired Dad

I am tired!

The past few months have been like a complete blur. We have had a lot going on. With the renovations, birthday parties, beach trips, sorting through old junk, working, and holidays I really have not had a whole lot of time to breathe.

I think my wife and I need a weekend of down time. As much as I love our crazy life that we built together, I would like to take a time out and sit in a hammock in the shade and just fall asleep for a couple of hours.

There are two things in this world that are amazing: Coffee and more Coffee. I never knew how much I loved it until I had children. My children are amazing but they are exhausting. I love them but they are at a 15 when I need them down at about a 3.

The other day my wife sent me a video of her in the drive thru at Chick-Fil-a and all you hear is my Evie yelling “BITE!!” and that was before my wife even got the food.

I sure I am not the only tired dad out there. I know there are some tired moms out there also. Parents should band together at these points. We all love our kids so it is ok to give each other a little break every now and then. Sometimes it is nice to go to a restaurant that does not have kid placemats.

Honestly I could not come up with something to write about today so this is all I got. Sometimes when you blog you get stuck and when you get stuck you tend to go on little rants like this about tired you are.

Have a great weekend…See you for #MedalMonday!

What A Holiday Weekend

I think that holiday weekends go by the fastest. I am pretty sure I am correct. I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and are ready to get back to work. I know that that last part is a little harder to hear. I know I could use another day by the pool.

My little family had a great weekend. We started Saturday by cleaning the house and getting ready for our new furniture to be delivered. We bought a new kitchen table and chairs and a big girl bed for K-Dub. The only problem was that they never put the box spring on our order so we spent a great part of our afternoon tracking down a box spring for her bed. Once we found on at Mattress Firm we got it and K-Dub had her first night in her new bed.

Sunday we got up and had coffee and went to the new Whole Foods that opened up near us in Waverly. I had never been inside a Whole Foods and had read many blogs were people account their own horror stories. I found this place really cool and I can’t wait to go back. The produce was fresh, the hot bar was amazing, and they atmosphere was cool. They even had their own little seating area upstairs. Is it a grocery store, is it a restaurant, or is it a coffee bar? Who knows but it was a neat experience.

After eating lunches and nap times we got ready and went to the first of many to come pool sessions. I think my girls loved it. They enjoyed it so much that when we got in the car to grab dinner they both fell asleep so my wife and I ended up getting our food to go. After super we decided to take the girls for a snow cone in Waxhaw and it was good. My favorite was the cherry margarita.

Monday I went and worked out. I then came home and cleaned up the backyard. My BIL and SIL came over with my nephews and we went back to the pool for a couple of hours. once we got back I put on my Martha Stewart hat and got to cooking. I made baked beans, I grilled some corn and bacon cheddar burgers, cut up a watermelon, and served warm apple pie with some ice cream. The kids enjoyed playing with some bubble guns we got them. We gave the kids a bath before the nephews went home and I passed out.

It was a great weekend and I hope you got to spend some time with your love ones and remember those who served us so we could celebrate this great holiday.

Happy Wednesday!

My Kids Are Special

This week we have had a lot of issues with our kids. I know every parent has issues with their kids but now it is my turn to vent a little.

Lets start with the oldest. K-Dub is having an issue wetting the bed. I am not sure how we have gotten to this point in our lives but I am so tired of striping this bed and washing sheets every day. I know my wife is because she is the one my kid was up in the middle of night to strip her wet pee soaked clothes off and put clean PJs on. I guess as dads we are automatically blocked from the kid waking us up in the middle of the night. My poor wife.

This has been going on for almost two weeks and I am tired of it. I have done everything in my power to help the situation. I started cutting her off the water an hour before bed and even pleaded with her. What else can you do? If your response is to wait it out then SHUT UP! Sorry that was a little extreme but you have to understand my frustrations.

If you have any advice please let me know.

The little one. This kid has a very serious attitude problem and if you are fooled by the cute smile then you are an idiot. Sorry again, it has been a crazy week. She actually got kicked out of class at daycare a few months ago cause she kept hitting the kids who were trying to nap. She is mean and if she does not like you then watch those tiny hands. They are about to come down on you.

I am not one to allow violence in my house by any means. Evie gets punished trust me. The only person that matters most to this little girl is her mom. If you take away the fact that her free line to unlimited milk is nestled in the breast of my bride then she would fall victim to these horrible acts of violence to. No one is safe from Evie. I don’t even get kisses from this girl. I get her forehead pushed against mine. Talk about disrespect.

Ok I am done venting now. I love my kids but sometimes that are real assholes. I mean I would walk on fire for them but sometimes I think they know this and try to take advantage of their old man. Anyways I know this is going to be temporary and I am going to look back on this post a year from now and laugh…or at least I hope.

Have a great weekend! See you next week!

Saturday Adventures

Today my wife and I went to our town’s semi annual consignment sale. K-Dub had no 4T clothes so we needed to stock up.

Through the years my wife and I have become pros at these sales. We always bring our own bag and work together on picking out the clothes.

This sale we managed to get all of K-Dubs fall clothes and even got her a pair of shoes.

After the sale we went and had a nice family breakfast at Stacks in Waxhaw which is by far the best breakfast place ever.

Later we picked K-Dub from her Grandmas house and went and saw my mom at the hospital. She was going much better today. She could speak better and she was starting to get some feeling back on her left side. Thanks to all of you for your kind comments, phone calls, text, and Facebook messages. Mom has a long recovery ahead but we are very hopefully.

K-Dub’s Little Adventure

IMG_2892 One of the things I look most forward to as a parent is not planning birthday parties, trips to the park, or hanging around watching cartoons. My favorite thing in the whole world is when someone asks me or my wife if they could take my kid for a few hours.

I know you might think I am a horrible parent and don’t get me wrong, I love spending time with my children. Sometimes I need some time away. Some time to reming myself that I am a human who has interest and a life outside of being a father. I find these times most cherished between my wife and I.

So today my wife and I had the opportunity to have K-Dub spend time with her grandparents. I immediately said yes. Now we only had to deal with Evie and she is by far the easy kid. A meal time with no fights made want to stand up and dance.

So her Pop picked her up from school and they went and got a doughnut. Then horseback riding farm followed. After that she ate corn on the cob.

What did Mom and Dad do? Ate a nice steak dinner with a baked potoato, had a real conversation about adult stuff, watched TV that was not animated. It was the best 45 minutes of my life.

When K-Dub finally came home she was so happy. She told us all about her adventures with Pop. The it hit me like a ton of bricks. I actually missed her. I missed her a lot actually.

I guess this is a losing battle cause I love my alone time. I crave it, however, I love spending time with my kids and the highlight of my day is dinner and cartoons before they go to bed. I guess my girls have me wrapped around their little fingers.

Monday, Monday, Monday

I have started this new challenge. It is more of a personal one then anything but for a solid 30 days I want to post on this blog. It can be a post about anything and everything as long as I blog about my life and what is going on with my family and I.  Here we go!

Today started with a normal trip to Crossfit MNC. I have been working the past week writing some article for the newsletter about some of the members and conducting interviews. I believe in this gym and the work that Coach Greg has put into it. I am proud to be part of this team. This morning I felt different. I was not feeling the gym. I did not want to be there nor did I want to give it 100%. I have not felt this way in a while. Usually when it comes to a workout I am super excited and pumped but not this morning.

IMG_3085

The workout was “Fran” and let me say that Fran is a bitch! Pardon my language, but it is. There is nothing easy or likable about Fran. For those who don’t know, this is “Fran”:

21-15-9
Thrusters
Pullups

You might be looking at that and thinking that it looks easy. I bet you that you never tried it and you can go to hell. Seriously, do “Fran” then come and talk to me and any other crossfitter. I bet you will agree that this workout beyond sucks! I even did the scale reps of 15-12-6 with 75lbs and did pull-ups with a band and it still was hard.

After the workout I headed to the office where I was on my 4th of an 8 day work week. I had worked the entire weekend covering obituaries and it was both easy and down right boring. I guess there is nothing lively about putting in a obit. I spent most of the day catching up my legal ads and making sure my upcoming wedding announcements were paid for. It was a rather busy day and people say the newspaper is dead.

After work and finally getting home I was able to enjoy a nice dinner with the family and play with K-Dub. Evie was asleep before I forgot home. She had been running fever and was sent home early from daycare. She was feeling better after a dose of Motrin and was all smiles.

I was invited to a reunion for some former employees that I worked with at a little grocery store in Wadesboro on August 20. I have say that I am excited to go and see everyone. Its been over 10 years since I worked there and 5 years since they closed. Where has the time gone?

K-Dub and I watch Ninja Turtles and She showed me where her “Grumpy was and I am still laughing cause it was too cute and funny. That kid cracks me up. Watch this video and try not laugh out loud.

I also finally got my Qalo ring I ordered last week!

Now that tonight is coming to a close and a thunderstorm is rolling in, I have to say that I am blessed to have such amazing people around me all the time. I know this is a little random but I have to say my family, friends, and gym family make Mondays so much more easier to do. Thanks guys!

Oh, I also wanted to thank all the readers who made this blog number #717 on The Parent Blogger Leaderboard! It feels like number one! You all rock!

My Kid Is Creepier Than Yours

We started this past weekend off pretty good. My wife and I wanted to stay pretty close to the house cause we had a ton of stuff to get done at the house. Trying to get things done with a toddler and an infant around is damn near impossible. So we took the kids to the park.

We met up with some good friends of ours and let the kids play. They played more by themselves cause my kid is weird and does not like to play with others. I think she gets that from me. Maybe it’s because she likes to be the boss. She gets that from her mother.

When I say my toddler played hard I mean hard. We got home from the park and she wanted a snack. I gave her some goldfish crackers, which I am convinced is cocaine for kids. I proceeded to make dinner and then that’s when I heard it.

I came around the corner and found this.

Creepy right?

I never have seen someone fall asleep with their eyes open before. My wife tell people that I do it but that is not true, also like I fart in my sleep.

Here is a better shot.

Here is to say my kid is way creepier then yours.

Why I Like Being Her Dad

I have to say that when the ultrasound tech told us that we were having a girl, I was a little upset. I really wanted a boy and only imagined myself raising a son. I never thought about having a girl. To be introduced to a world of poneytails, prom dresses, PMS, and tampons scared me to death. I grew up in a home with my mother being the only girl so I never had to learn the details of these topics nor did I care to. Everything was about wrestling, football, and superheroes.

When my brother and his wife had my niece I was excited for them. They wanted a child and did not care if it was a boy or a girl. I remember looking in her pretty eyes and thinking how much fun we were going to have. She was my first intro into seeing what it was like having a girl.

After finding out we were having a girl, I had my little depressed moment and then I started thinking about all the fun things I got to do with my niece and now I could take that to the next level with my own daughter. After K-Dub came into this world, I got the pleasure of being the first one to hold her. It was love at first sight. I will never forget it. Over the course of her little shot life I found many reasons I like being her dad and here are a few.

Our conversations: We talk about everything. We talk about daycare, the park, why daddy runs, why Karsyn like Palace Pets, Everly and Mommy. She is really easy to talk to for a two-year old and she is smart as a whip. I let her make decisions like what toy to bring with her on outings and what after daycare snack she wants. We always have a nice talk over oatmeal and coffee (you can guess which one is for who) on Tuesdays and Thursday’s before I take her to daycare. It’s our time to catch up a reconnect. I love it.

She loves me: I know that is a cheap thing to say but it is true. She really does love me. She looks up to me and that’s not only cause she is short. When I am sick she comes over, gets her Doc McStuffin’s doctor kit out and yells “TIME FOR YOUR CHECKUP DADDY!” She loves me even when I am not at my best moments. When I am made at her and want to throw my hands up, she still gives me hugs and wants to sit on my lap and cuddle and watch Disney Junior.

I am her example: This is one I take very seriously. I remember that country song called I’ve been watching you and that song is true. Your kids are always watching you and you are the example they follow. I try to be a good example for my daughter in our house. I want her to look at me an know that this is the correct way for a man to treat a woman. By doing this I hope to install values in her so she does not settle for someone who treats her like crap. When I take her to school in the mornings, I always hold her hand and say a prayer before we leave the car. She needs to know that even Daddy has a relationship with God.

Its fun being her Daddy: That’s really sums it up. I love coming home and playing puzzles with her, playing hide and seek under blankets (she always finds me), reading stories, taking her to new places, and even dressing up and playing princesses. It truly is the best thing ever. I get to teach her how to say cool things like “You got it dude”, or “I drop a deuce”.  Also, I never know what she is going to do or say next. Kids are fun!

Now that we are not far from welcoming baby Everly into our family, my only hopes are to be the same for her as I am for K-Dub. To love her no more or no less than K-Dub and to be the best dad I can be to her also. Its scary being responsible for the  care for two little people. I am also excited!

The First Jump

I have to say that my daughter has always been afraid of everything. That is until she tries it for the first time.

This past weekend we decided to go to the pool to cool off from the summer heat. I love summertime and I love the pool even more especially after working out for six days in a row. It is always great to relax and just float. My daughter does not understand this method of relaxation that her father needs and at age two neither did I.

After layering the family with sunscreen, we were all ready to get in. Everyone except K-Dub who fought her way to edge of the pool. I picked her up and she held on to me for dear life and did not want to let go. She was scared and I get that.

After a couple of minutes with Mommy, she started becoming more familiar with the water. She was kicking and splashing. Before I knew it she was jumping in the pool and to my arms over and over again. She was having a great time. Our pool trip was a success and now I can’t wait to bring her back to the pool.

K-Dub’s first jump into the pool was not her only first this weekend. My wife and I made a joint decision to turn her car seat to forward facing. My wife was a little emotional about and so was I. It was just another reminder that our baby is growing up too fast. I guess in a strange way she is making room for her new sister, Everly Mae

#PregnancyProblems Weeks 13 to 18

Well we finally made to the reveal of the gender of our second child. I have to say that this pregnancy has left me wondering if maybe this time around I was going to be having a son. My wife has been very sick all the time, She has craved sour pickles, her belly was what seemed to me, carrying the baby very high. All signs were pointing to a boy.

We decided that we were going to wait and find out with our family. We had the ultrasound tech place the gender in a sealed envelope and we gave it to a trust friend and that went and bought silly string. After covering the cans so we would not see the color, they were placed in a gender natural bag and stapled it shut.

We gathered our family around at the local park. We provided doughnuts and water but we knew that the only thing they cared about was what was in the bad. After handing out the can we stood together and counted down. 1…2…3… SPRAY!!!!

It was revealed that we were going to have a… GIRL!!!!

Yes another girl! I have to admit that I was a little upset. I swore up and down that this one was going to be a boy. I think that it would have been great to have a boy cause it would have been a new adventure for my wife and I. Unfortunately, the world had other plans for us. I have to say that as I sat and thought about it, I am actually really excited about having another girl. K-Dub loves me to pieces and I she is really a Daddy’s girl. So as of today I am ok with another girl.

As for a name, Everly Mae will be joining our family this October. We are already so in love!
