I Am A Tired Dad

I am tired!

The past few months have been like a complete blur. We have had a lot going on. With the renovations, birthday parties, beach trips, sorting through old junk, working, and holidays I really have not had a whole lot of time to breathe.

I think my wife and I need a weekend of down time. As much as I love our crazy life that we built together, I would like to take a time out and sit in a hammock in the shade and just fall asleep for a couple of hours.

There are two things in this world that are amazing: Coffee and more Coffee. I never knew how much I loved it until I had children. My children are amazing but they are exhausting. I love them but they are at a 15 when I need them down at about a 3.

The other day my wife sent me a video of her in the drive thru at Chick-Fil-a and all you hear is my Evie yelling “BITE!!” and that was before my wife even got the food.

I sure I am not the only tired dad out there. I know there are some tired moms out there also. Parents should band together at these points. We all love our kids so it is ok to give each other a little break every now and then. Sometimes it is nice to go to a restaurant that does not have kid placemats.

Honestly I could not come up with something to write about today so this is all I got. Sometimes when you blog you get stuck and when you get stuck you tend to go on little rants like this about tired you are.

Have a great weekend…See you for #MedalMonday!

My Perfect Father’s Day

Just when I think my little girls could not surprise me anymore, they do. I had a great Father’s Day and thanks to my girls and my amazing wife, I was showered with love the entire day.

I woke up to “Happy Father’s Day” from K-Dub, which was followed by lots of hugs and kisses. After we got dressed they handed me their homemade cards. Nothing is better then a homemade card.

I was taken to my favorite breakfast spot which is Stacks in Waxhaw. If you ever go I suggest you go early as the line can get crazy. We stuffed our faces with pancakes, French toast, and hash browns and bacon. So good and so worth it!

After breakfast went on our usual Sunday Target run to get some things for the week and my wife bought me some new clothes. When we got home, I left with K-Dub and went to see Cars 3. It was a great time with just the two of us. I spoiled her with candy and popcorn and she soaked up every minute with me.

When we got home we went swimming for a couple of hours at the neighborhood pool and then went home where I made my famous Mac and cheese with fried squash and cornbread. It was yummy! Then I was treated to Pelican’s Snowcones in Waxhaw. This place is so good. They over 50 flavors and it is very affordable. I got cherry margarita and blue raspberry. So good.

I loved my Father’s Day. I got to spend it with my girls who I love more then anything in this world. Being a dad is the best job I could ask for and one that I never take for granted.

Our Little Family Beach Trip

This past weekend we headed down to Holden Beach for a little family vacation. Nothing fancy but us and the rest of BrittWhitFun’s family. We really had no choice cause of all the renovations going on we could not be at the house.

The first day we were there we had a great breakfast over at Nana’s house. We then headed to the dock and got on my FIL’s boat. There is just something great about being on a boat in the summer time. We rode around for a while and found a great spot on the inlet and set up camp.

We spent the entire morning and afternoon playing in the sand, swimming, fishing, and just relaxing. It was great. The beach is one of my favorite places and it is awesome that my in laws share the same joy.

After we got done we loaded up camp and came back to the dock. We went back to the motel we were staying and got showers. After we got cleaned off we headed back over to Nana’s house so the kids could have some alone time with their Pop and Nana while the adults went out to dinner.

We had a great dinner at Provision Company which included a couple of cocktails and seafood. It is always great to get away without the kids and enjoy some adult laughs and conversation.  After dinner we went to a local ice cream shop where my SIL just can’t seem to eat an ice cream cone the right way. I mean who bites the end of a cone with ice cream still in there?

After some much needed rest we ready for day two. We went back to Nana’s house and ate breakfast again and then headed down to the beach.

We spent another long morning and afternoon on the beach swimming, digging holes, looking for seashells, and eating burgers from the local pier. Its was an awesome day. My kids got disgusting, especially Evie, and had to be rinsed off before heading home.

I must say I love my in laws and my little family. Our beach trips are always so much fun. I hope that even though our Nana is selling her place that we can continue these trips and enjoy each others company.

What A Holiday Weekend

I think that holiday weekends go by the fastest. I am pretty sure I am correct. I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and are ready to get back to work. I know that that last part is a little harder to hear. I know I could use another day by the pool.

My little family had a great weekend. We started Saturday by cleaning the house and getting ready for our new furniture to be delivered. We bought a new kitchen table and chairs and a big girl bed for K-Dub. The only problem was that they never put the box spring on our order so we spent a great part of our afternoon tracking down a box spring for her bed. Once we found on at Mattress Firm we got it and K-Dub had her first night in her new bed.

Sunday we got up and had coffee and went to the new Whole Foods that opened up near us in Waverly. I had never been inside a Whole Foods and had read many blogs were people account their own horror stories. I found this place really cool and I can’t wait to go back. The produce was fresh, the hot bar was amazing, and they atmosphere was cool. They even had their own little seating area upstairs. Is it a grocery store, is it a restaurant, or is it a coffee bar? Who knows but it was a neat experience.

After eating lunches and nap times we got ready and went to the first of many to come pool sessions. I think my girls loved it. They enjoyed it so much that when we got in the car to grab dinner they both fell asleep so my wife and I ended up getting our food to go. After super we decided to take the girls for a snow cone in Waxhaw and it was good. My favorite was the cherry margarita.

Monday I went and worked out. I then came home and cleaned up the backyard. My BIL and SIL came over with my nephews and we went back to the pool for a couple of hours. once we got back I put on my Martha Stewart hat and got to cooking. I made baked beans, I grilled some corn and bacon cheddar burgers, cut up a watermelon, and served warm apple pie with some ice cream. The kids enjoyed playing with some bubble guns we got them. We gave the kids a bath before the nephews went home and I passed out.

It was a great weekend and I hope you got to spend some time with your love ones and remember those who served us so we could celebrate this great holiday.

Happy Wednesday!

K-Dub’s Concert

I have no idea why I did not share this a few weeks ago. I must have had a ton of other crazy things going on. A couple of weeks ago K-Dub had a concert put on by her school for the parents. It was her first one in the entire three years she had been there. I was actually pretty excited about going. What is more cute then a bunch of adorable kids singing? Right?

So we got her all dressed up. I left work early to ensure I was there on time. We got to the school and dropped her off at her classroom before going and taking our seats in the auditorium.

Soon it was time to start and the kids came marching in looking all adorable. Soon they started singing. I could not find K-Dub at first. I had to stand a little out of my chair and found that all the other kids were singing and she was standing there with her hands over her mouth. Only my kid. Take a look.

I was not made at her by any means but it was still pretty cute.

My Kids Are Special

This week we have had a lot of issues with our kids. I know every parent has issues with their kids but now it is my turn to vent a little.

Lets start with the oldest. K-Dub is having an issue wetting the bed. I am not sure how we have gotten to this point in our lives but I am so tired of striping this bed and washing sheets every day. I know my wife is because she is the one my kid was up in the middle of night to strip her wet pee soaked clothes off and put clean PJs on. I guess as dads we are automatically blocked from the kid waking us up in the middle of the night. My poor wife.

This has been going on for almost two weeks and I am tired of it. I have done everything in my power to help the situation. I started cutting her off the water an hour before bed and even pleaded with her. What else can you do? If your response is to wait it out then SHUT UP! Sorry that was a little extreme but you have to understand my frustrations.

If you have any advice please let me know.

The little one. This kid has a very serious attitude problem and if you are fooled by the cute smile then you are an idiot. Sorry again, it has been a crazy week. She actually got kicked out of class at daycare a few months ago cause she kept hitting the kids who were trying to nap. She is mean and if she does not like you then watch those tiny hands. They are about to come down on you.

I am not one to allow violence in my house by any means. Evie gets punished trust me. The only person that matters most to this little girl is her mom. If you take away the fact that her free line to unlimited milk is nestled in the breast of my bride then she would fall victim to these horrible acts of violence to. No one is safe from Evie. I don’t even get kisses from this girl. I get her forehead pushed against mine. Talk about disrespect.

Ok I am done venting now. I love my kids but sometimes that are real assholes. I mean I would walk on fire for them but sometimes I think they know this and try to take advantage of their old man. Anyways I know this is going to be temporary and I am going to look back on this post a year from now and laugh…or at least I hope.

Have a great weekend! See you next week!

Operation: Danger Ranger

This past weekend we headed back to Carolina Beach to get the truck from the auto shop. I was a great chance to have a little day trip and enjoy each other’s company. It was a perfect Saturday morning.

After we got the truck, we headed down to the boardwalk and ate at Shelby Jean’s restaurant. It was a cool place with some really good food. The girls had a blast eating and of course chasing each other around the whole place.

After finding some grub for our bellys, we headed to the beach for some fun in the sun.

We built sandcastles and watched the girls get coated with sand. I have never seen Evie get so disgusting. It was fun to hang on the beach with them.

After playing in the and and beating the ocean up for the second time, we changed our clothes and headed home but not before grabbing doughnuts from Britt’s and Wake and Bake. What can I say? Saturdays are meant for doughnuts and coffee. I love them both.

We had a blast on our day trip and have discussed to do more of them in the future.

I am so glad to have my truck back. I missed it!

Our Yabba Dabba Doo Halloween!

20131101-105419.jpg

Well Halloween has come and passed but it sure was fun. As you can see we were The Flintstones for Halloween. I have to say my little Pebbles looked really cute. After we got dress we went to Trunk-or-Treat at the local church and had a great time showing off our costumes to the community. People gave us lots of compliments and said that we were really cute. I think the real stars of the night were of course the babies. K-Dub and HJ who really looked cute with their Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm costumes on. We of course had to stop by Aunt E to see her Christmas decorated trunk.

After we left the church we stop by my mom’s house so she could see us. She was sitting outside in the driveway handing out candy to the local kids. She got her picture made with Pebbles and just said that she was too cute.

Oh, and when I was at work we had a pumpkin carving contest and one team made this really cute pumpkin in the shape of a Big Mac. It was the most original pumpkin I have seen in a long time. They won a free pizza lunch and they deserve it!

How was your Halloween? What did you dress up as? Ours was fun and it will always be one that K-Dub will remember for the rest of her life. If not, I could always just show her this blog entry. As for now I will be taking down the Halloween stuff this weekend to make room for my favorite holiday which is Thanksgiving. This year it is going to be hosted at my house so I have a feeling its going to be very stressful. In the meantime don’t get full on candy!

Where Has The Time Gone?

I sit here at work today trying to find something to blog about and let me tell you that sometimes blogging can be kind of a bitch. I sat here and wrote a few drafts when I happen to look down at my desk and saw a picture of Brittney and I when we first started dating. Not only am I thirty pounds lighter in this picture but it came to my mind that this was taken three years again.

I started to think about what was my life looked like three years ago. I was living in a small apartment with my roommate and his girlfriend. I had just got out of college and had that whole “I have no idea what I am doing with my life” thing going for me. I was working as a third shift cashier at the local Harris Teeter while also working two to three days at the last Blockbuster in the world that is open. I drove a beat up 1998 Jeep Cherokee that I had since high school. It sounded like a tank coming down the road. I loved it. I was barely making ends meet but was having the time of my life.

Then one day I came down with pink eye and had to go to the doctor’s office. What I did not know was that visit was going to change my life forever. That was the day I met my wife. We started to date and we had an instant connection and I knew that this person was a “game changer” that flip everything upside down.

Soon I got my first real job after college which I am still there. I moved out of that apartment and moved in with Brittney. After that we were engaged and then six months later we got married. After we moved in to our first house it was not long after that Brittney and I were expecting our first child and then January of this year our daughter was born.

Looking back on these past three years I am still finding it hard to believe that it has been so little time. What can I say? When you know, you know. Brittney and I don’t always get along but we have a deep respect for one another. She deals with my crazy one man dance parties in the kitchen, my constant complaining about our malfunctioning bathroom scale, my weird laughing in my sleep, and my loud and smelly man gas that usually is a result from eating too much Subway. I deal with her need to be right or to prove herself right, her crazy and somewhat expensive sweet tooth, her weird obsession with Keith Urban, and her “rage blackouts” that leave me crying in the corner. That last one is not true. Still we make it work. Thats love!

I would not change anything that has happened in the past three years. I would do it again if I had to but maybe with the whole staying thirty pounds lighter. I have a feeling that Brittney and I have so much more to look forward to. We are just getting started and now that we are parents, the real adventure is about to begin.

A Diaper Load Of Fatherhood!

20130225-165109.jpg

Well it has been well over a month since my last post so I just want to first say that I am sorry for being away from my keyboard for so long but this baby keeps me busy. I have had to adjust to life as a parent and it has not been the easiest thing. Life is already hard but with a newborn, it is much or harder than I expected. Please don’t think I am having regrets about becoming a father. I am not and I love my baby girl to death. All I am saying is that it would be nice to sleep past seven in the morning on my days off.

Karsyn is developing nicely. She is learning new things everyday and so is mom and dad. I have learned that I am no longer able to watch my TV shows. Something as simple as watching a 30 minute episode of How I Met Your Mother has turned into a feature film due to having to take breaks between Karsyn’s loud tantrums. I have also found that planning to be somewhere is now like preparing to enter The Hunger Games. Packing your diaper bag while getting ready yourself, taking the dog out to pee, and praying you can make it to the car without the baby pooping all down her back. Yea this is what my life has become.

I love my wife to death and she is a FANTASTIC mother but sometimes I can tell where she has had enough and wants to head to Old Time Pottery to pick the most prettiest basket to leave her in on the footsteps of that nice Mexican couple’s house down the street. I know she is ready to go back to work soon and I am ready for her to. She needs to be around some adults for a change and not playing the game of if I move this way will I wake her up? I have tried to be romantic but the mood is gone after being up for almost 24 hours with your kid who thinks that nighttime is party time. The only romance I am getting lately is the one with my Amazon.com account. Yes I have found that online shopping can fill the void of non romantic times and plus that one click ordering button is addicting. Please don’t think that my wife does not try cause she does.  She just tells me the first thing she wants to do when I get home from work is to hand her to me and go soak in a hot bath for a few hours. I don’t blame her. I just wish I could join her. The last thing she wants is for me to shake my junk at her after she just finished picking the dried spit up out from between her nails.

I have to say though that the late night feeding and diaper changes are not that bad. I have become an expert with changing diapers. I have come a long way from “The Diaper Thong” incident if I say so myself. I have learned a lot too like how much I hate Target brand wipes cause they stick together, how to properly apply butt paste, and not to bounce your baby right after they eat. That last one was an easy one to learn and my Avengers T-shirt is my proof.

All and all being a father is fun and exciting. I love my baby girl and I would streak down Rodeo Drive for her it was to make her happy. I have a long road ahead and the fun thing about this journey is the crazy places it takes you. You just got to get poop and thrown up on along the way.
