We have not had a medal Monday Monday in a while and I completed my virtual race for August! I have to say this was a fun event and I managed to get the August medal and the medal for completing all three races. So now that this series of races are over I have a lot of great things happening in the fall that I am super excited about. I even got my family involved in some of them.

It has been a hot minute since I posted a Medal Monday so I recently completed my time for the July Disney Virtual Race and wanted to share my medal for the month.
This month I really hopped back on the track and treadmill. I have not really ran this hard since the Charlotte Marathon event last November so it has been since to work my distance back up and to get me ready for the races and competitions I have coming in 2018.
This Fourth of July was just like any other. I feel I do the same thing every year. Maybe that is a good thing.
I started off the holiday with what I do best…a workout. This workout was not like the one we did last year but I like that it was different. The past few months I have been doing my own thing and it was great to do a workout with the class.
You and your partner complete the following with one partner working at a time. 20 minute cap
Run 1,6oo meters at 400 meters at a time while other partner holds 115 pound bar overhead. If they drop it then they do 5 lateral burps.
150 wall ball shots while other partner holds deadlift weight of 205 pounds. With time remaining do max reps of toes to bar or weighted sit ups.
It was a hard one but I managed to only have to put the bar down twice. That is a big win for me.
After that I came home and had my shower, helped my wife clean, and played with Evie. K-Dub went to the parade with her grandparents. My wife went to the store to pick up dinner and to later pick up K-Dub. While she was gone I put Evie down for a nap and just laid on the couch.
When my wife and K got home we headed to the pool for some cool off time but it was short lived as a storm headed in. Thank goodness It did not last long.
After we changed I made burgers, hotdogs, cut up some strawberries and watermelon, boiled some corn, and made homemade ice cream. We invite my MIL to come over and hangout for a couple of minutes.
Soon fireworks started popping off so we sat out in our driveway and watched them before sending the kids off to bed. My wife and I even had on matching T-shirts.
All and all it was a great low key holiday. I hope this blog entry did not bore you too bad. Sometimes you just need a simple day at the house.
I am happy to announce that we are heading back to Disney in 2018!
This week I have been in touch with my travel agent and we are in the process of planning another epic trip to Disney World in April 2018. I am already registered to run the Star Wars Half Marathon a weekend in April so we decided to turn that weekend in a extra long trip as a family.
This time around it will be just the four of us going. That makes me sad but I feel we can manage an extended stay with only two adults. I am so excited to be planning this trip. I already have selected some of the places I want to make dining reservations at. I have been reading the food blogs like crazy. There was still so much to do that last time we could not squeeze it all in.
I am very excited to get back down there and I know my kids are.
Disney World here were come…again
Here we are. The past few weeks now I have recap my most favorite races. I have posted a ton of pictures from each race and of course taken pictures of the fronts and backs of all my medals Why the backs? Well one thing that was so cool about those medals was that they connect to make one big huge massive medal.
Completing this series of races last year was a huge accomplishment for me and I take pride in all the hard work I put to my 2016 race season. I am ready to brush off the running shoes soon to get ready for 2018 which is going to be a huge year for me. I am doing my first Triathlon, running the Star Wars Half Marathon in Disney World, and maybe a crossfit competition. 2017 I have taken a break from the race season to focus more on weight training but I will return an maybe in 2019 do the six pack series again.
First, let me ay I am sorry I missed last weeks Medal Monday. The hoilday threw off my blogging schedule but here we are starting a new week.
This week I am recaping my last race in the six pack series I did last year and that is the Rocktoberfest Half Marathon. This is a big race cause it usually is about two weeks before the big Charlotte Marathon. It is a lot of fun but the race is a challenge.
When the race started I thought I was going to be fine. That was until I got to mile three. I had to pee and there were not portajohns in sight. So I ran to mile five, then mile six, them mile eight, then at mile nine which was an top hill struggle peed behind a parked car on the street. I am pretty sure everyone knew what I was doing.
From miles nine to 12 it felt like the corse was completely up hill and I thought I was going to die. The course crossed over Independence Blvd and down Old Charlotte Highway back to Kings Drive where the race was finally over. That seemed like a long finish but when I arrived I was glad to have accomplished something so great.
For anyone who loves a course full of hills then this is the race for you. Just go to the bathroom first.
For the past few years, on Memorial Day, I always have one thing that I do. I head over to my gym and it down with about 30 of my gym friends and listen to the story of Murph.
What is Murph? I talked about this last year on my blog. Murph is a workout that we do every year on this day to show respect for our fallen soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. The workout is…
1 Mile Run
1 Mile Run
This year was the first year where instead of doing it as a partner I did it myself. My version was a little different as I did a 1 mile run, then 10 rounds of 10 pull-ups, 20 pushups, and 30 squats, then another 1 mile run. I still did the work but I just broke the reps up. This was from the advice of my coach.
This workout is as hard as it looks. I am still very sore from it but thats not the point. The point is to feel even an ounce of the pain that our soldiers go through for our freedom. I have so many friends in the military and I have so much respect for the sacrifice they not only make for themselves but for their families. I have a friend that is out of the country and is missing his son who is not even six months old yet. That is love to be able to withstand that and I am here fortunate enough to see and hold my girls anytime I want. What a reality check.
So if you never done this workout then give it a try. Do a partner version. I hope you all had a great Memorial Day.
Out of all the races from last year this was the second worst one in mob opinion. I had never been to Lake Norman before so when it came time for this race I had no idea what to expect.
This was one of those races where I had to go alone as Brittney was busy with our newborn at the time. So I made the trip out there solo. It was 10 miles and I was used to running 10 miles. How hard could this one be.
The first few miles were great. We ran through a park and through a couple of nice neighborhoods then things took a turn.
There all the sudden were a lot of hills…Like A LOT! I would myself struggling around miles 7 to 9 cause it was beginning to take a tole on my feet.
When I reach mile 10 it felt like it was never going to happen. I had to really push myself to the end but I made it.
If you love a challenge then this race is for you.
This week I am talking about Hit The Brixx 5k and 10k from September 17, 2016. This race was awesome and left me so full….more on this later.
This race was in Uptown at the Brixx Pizza. This is one of my favorite places to eat cause their food is out of this world. They also have a great selection of beer.
We got to this race early just like we always do. When I say we I mean my wife and kids came also. Of course when we arrived my oldest had to pee. What we did not count on was that the line was out the door for the bathroom and there were no port-johns anywhere as they were late to arrive.
By the time my wife got done in the bathroom the 10k had already started and I missed it as I was suppose to run Bothe the 10k and the 5k back to back. I was not mad but a little disappointed.
So we waited out in Uptown for the 5k to start which was fine cause it gave me a chance to hang with my kids and take some cool photos.
As for the race itself. It was very hilly. There were so many hills but it was a fun course to run. I love running in Charlotte anyways. I push harder and harder and made it through the hills. When I arrived at the finish line I saw my daughter and she wanted me to pick her up. Just like the Charlotte Marathon, I picker her up and carried her with me over the finish line.
Afterwards we fed our faces with unlimited pizza and beer. It gave me the opportunity to try some of the cool local brews. Man are they good.
