#MedalMonday-Running For Cancer & Family Bonfires

I have not ran since last November as I have taken this year to build my strength and to take a step back from the competitive running circuit. It has not been an easy thing but I am confident that when it comes time to train I will be ready.

My SIL asked me a couple of months ago if I would like to run a 5k with her as she has gotten a hold of the fitness bug and wanted to do. I said ok as I am never going to turn down a chance to support someone wanting to better themselves.

The race we chose was the Run For Kids Cancer 5K in Ballantyne. The event was cool and there was plenty of stuff for the kids to do.

Soon the race was on and we did good. I ran at my SIL pace and we took our time.

Soon we finished and got some pretty awesome medals. I must say it felt great to once again cross the finish line.

Later that day we celebrated with a bonfire, pizza and s’mores.

Date Night, Cookouts, And Ripped Pants

This weekend was very busy as all our weekends are. It seems that my wife and I are busier then ever. We spend most of our weekends trying to hurry and get the laundry and cleaning done on Saturday morning so we can have fun a relax the rest of the time off we have together. This weekend was no different.

My wife had her company BBQ on Saturday at one of her doctors horse farms. It was a heart little BBQ complete with games, kegs of beer, pony rides, and lots of food. Naturally I headed to the keg while the kids played games. We mingled through the crowd. I talked to an old classmate from high school for a bit. It was nice. It was also VERY HOT. As the sweat started to bleed through my shirt I knew it was time to leave. I think the girls had fun.

After we got home and got the chance to dry off, my SIL E came over and watched the kids for us so my wife and I could go out and have a nice dinner just the two of us.

It was nice to get away with my love and stuff our faces with chicken, steak, and chocolate cake. It was not on my approved eating clean diet but well worth it.

Sunday was a blur. We went to the Another Broken Egg Cafe and had a great breakfast that reminded me a lot of our Charleston trip. Then we went home where the kids took a long nap, my went to the grocery store, and we relaxed at the pool for a couple of hours.

After getting the kids settled for dinner my wife asked me to pick up some Sabor Latin Street Grill for dinner so I headed up to Wesley Chapel. Once I got our food and started to climb in my truck I heard a rip. I looked down and my shorts had ripped all the way down the seam of the crotch.

Besides ripping my pants my weekend was great. I would be lying if I said that has never happened to me before. I hope your weekend was as fun and crazy as mine was.

Happy Thursday!

Superheros And Horse Riding

This past weekend was my nephews birthday party. No they are no twins but their birthdays are like two weeks apart so my SIL like to do one big birthday party and to be quite frank, I do not blame her.

So the theme for their party was superhero. Man I wish I had boys so I could do cool themes like this. You can only be a princess so many times before you want to move on.

The party was so much fun and very hot as the whole thing was outside on my FIL’s farm. I love that farm. They have a ton of land and it is so peaceful unlike the loud suburbs we live in. To start things off we indulge ourselves in watermelon, funny cut shaped PB&J sandwiches, chips, and deli meat pinwheels. My SIL knows how to party.

After we ate, we began to to tractor rides around in the field.

And horse rides for the kids…

and adults..meaning me.

Then we had some really good cake.

I think my nephews had a great party. I am looking forward to spoiling them this coming weekend at the beach.

Summer Adventure 9- Adventure In The Sky!

Sorry it’s taken me a week to post. I had to get over my vacation blues. The worst thing about vacations is that they come to a end. It’s always best to do one last crazy thing before it’s over and that is just what I did. After relaxing on the beach, get wet at the water park, and getting up close and personal with a herd of steers it was time to head to the mountains for a zip lining adventure I would never forget.

We arrived at Sky Valley Zip Tours in Blowing Rock, North Carolina early that morning. BrittWhitFun, my sister-in-law Kate, and her husband Spencer and I were so pumped to get started. I do have to admit that I was a little nervous and excited. The iced coffee from Starbucks helped with that a little. We were greeted by our rangers and then told how to put on our safety gear.

Once we got suited up we headed up the mountain to “ground school” where we learned the basic moves to perform a fun and safe zip. Then we got started.

The first few zips were short and easy. I guess they were there just to get you ready for the big ones. Then you went to the one they call “Big Momma”, which is 1,400 feet long and it’s between two mountains and when you look down you see nothing but valley. It was amazing.

As the tour went on you did a cliff jump and a few more zips before ending the tour with a swinging bridge and some zips that were way to fast. I almost knocked Kate off the platform in one.

It was a lot of fun and it was great to do a crazy adventure with my wife, who was a real trooper and I love that she supports my crazy ideas. When we left we grabbed lunch at our favorite pizza place which is Mellow Mushroom and then headed home to get our kids who we missed a lot.

Would I ever do this again? In a heartbeat. It was an amazing adventure. I am hoping to do a few more crazy things before I return like hang gliding or even sky diving. That would be cool. All and all I had a great vacation and can’t wait till the next!

From Congrats To Ice Cream

It’s been a hell of a couple of weeks and I have a lot to be thankful for and to reflect on. I have a lot of good news to share and some to hold on to for a couple of weeks.

The most recent news is one I have had a lot of mixed emotions about until tonight. I actually learned an important lesson this week and the story is both sad and happy.

Anyone who knows me will tell you that I am crazy protective of my family. I always want what I think is best for them which is not always what is best for them at all.

The news was that my sister in law Kate got engaged to her boyfriend of two years named Spencer. When I first heard the news that this was going to happen I was worried cause I did not think they could handle this type of decision. I had a lot of questions but was worried about voicing them cause I did not want to come off as an asshole.

Tonight we had them over for dinner and my plan was to act happy and not say anything unless spoken to. This plan was going good until Kate asked me point blank why I was being quite and if I thought she was making a mistake.

I looked at her and addressed my concerns and found that my concerns were already her concerns. She knew where I was coming from and actually appreciated me being so protective over her. One thing I can and will always say about my relationship with Kate is that we have always been upfront with one another about everything. I actually met her before I met her sister(my wife).

The rest of tonight went really good with a lot of wedding talk and a trip for ice cream at the local DQ. We then went to check out a venue and I thought it was perfect.

The lesson that I learned this week was to no matter how much you have an issue with everything that is happening you need to be supportive and always have your family’s back.

Now I can say that I am so excited to be apart of this great milestone in Kate and Spencer’s life. I know that they will have an excellent marriage and with will be truly happy. Congrats guys! Love you!
