Back At It Again

It has been a long time since my last entry. There really are no other excuses other then life happens and that sometimes breaks are a must. That does not mean that I am not ever coming back. It just means that my time was spent on more important things like my kids and family.

There last entry I posted was in February and so many things have happened since then. Let me take a second and update you.

K-Dub is getting big. I sometimes cannot believe she is five cause I swear in the last few months she has hit a growth spurt. She looks more like she is 7. In my last update I told you she was starting dance. She has since had her first ever recital and loves it. We have plans for her to re-enroll in the fall.

Speaking of enrollment… K-Dub is starting Kindergarten in less then three weeks! Where did the time go? We were very lucky she got accepted at one of the local charter schools near where we live. She is excited and this weekend I am going to start gathering her school supplies while BrittWhitFun gets her school uniforms. I just can’t believe that we are finally at this moment and it makes me sad and joyful.

Evie is a force of nature. She has been getting big also. She has really come around on the loving Dad front and now she never wants to leave my side unless Mom is around. She has been really trying to grasp this whole potty training thing. She has #1 down by #2 has been a really struggle for not only her but for Mom and Dad. I may have stepped on poop while putting her on the potty. It just kind of rolled out of her underwear. Sorry. I hope you were not eating when you read this.

We have tried to transition Evie from her crib to toddler bed but it was a disaster so we decided to keep the crib a little longer. She is just not ready and until she is fully potty trained she really needs to stay in her crib.

Here are some of the other highlights of the past few months:

My SIL got married back in April.

K-Dub learned to swim

My brother and I could not be better

My brother dressed like a lady for charity

I decided to take on swimming

Easter was a lot of fun.

We went to the Zoo

I won Coordinator of the Quarter

Had a great Mother’s Day Mingle At The Mint Event

What is next for the family? We have a lot of things coming up. K-Dub starting school, Evie is turning 3 and we are heading back to Disney World in less then 90 days and I am not even close to being ready!

As always comments are appreciated and I can’t wait to here from you.

Date Night, Cookouts, And Ripped Pants

This weekend was very busy as all our weekends are. It seems that my wife and I are busier then ever. We spend most of our weekends trying to hurry and get the laundry and cleaning done on Saturday morning so we can have fun a relax the rest of the time off we have together. This weekend was no different.

My wife had her company BBQ on Saturday at one of her doctors horse farms. It was a heart little BBQ complete with games, kegs of beer, pony rides, and lots of food. Naturally I headed to the keg while the kids played games. We mingled through the crowd. I talked to an old classmate from high school for a bit. It was nice. It was also VERY HOT. As the sweat started to bleed through my shirt I knew it was time to leave. I think the girls had fun.

After we got home and got the chance to dry off, my SIL E came over and watched the kids for us so my wife and I could go out and have a nice dinner just the two of us.

It was nice to get away with my love and stuff our faces with chicken, steak, and chocolate cake. It was not on my approved eating clean diet but well worth it.

Sunday was a blur. We went to the Another Broken Egg Cafe and had a great breakfast that reminded me a lot of our Charleston trip. Then we went home where the kids took a long nap, my went to the grocery store, and we relaxed at the pool for a couple of hours.

After getting the kids settled for dinner my wife asked me to pick up some Sabor Latin Street Grill for dinner so I headed up to Wesley Chapel. Once I got our food and started to climb in my truck I heard a rip. I looked down and my shorts had ripped all the way down the seam of the crotch.

Besides ripping my pants my weekend was great. I would be lying if I said that has never happened to me before. I hope your weekend was as fun and crazy as mine was.

Happy Thursday!

What A Holiday Weekend

I think that holiday weekends go by the fastest. I am pretty sure I am correct. I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and are ready to get back to work. I know that that last part is a little harder to hear. I know I could use another day by the pool.

My little family had a great weekend. We started Saturday by cleaning the house and getting ready for our new furniture to be delivered. We bought a new kitchen table and chairs and a big girl bed for K-Dub. The only problem was that they never put the box spring on our order so we spent a great part of our afternoon tracking down a box spring for her bed. Once we found on at Mattress Firm we got it and K-Dub had her first night in her new bed.

Sunday we got up and had coffee and went to the new Whole Foods that opened up near us in Waverly. I had never been inside a Whole Foods and had read many blogs were people account their own horror stories. I found this place really cool and I can’t wait to go back. The produce was fresh, the hot bar was amazing, and they atmosphere was cool. They even had their own little seating area upstairs. Is it a grocery store, is it a restaurant, or is it a coffee bar? Who knows but it was a neat experience.

After eating lunches and nap times we got ready and went to the first of many to come pool sessions. I think my girls loved it. They enjoyed it so much that when we got in the car to grab dinner they both fell asleep so my wife and I ended up getting our food to go. After super we decided to take the girls for a snow cone in Waxhaw and it was good. My favorite was the cherry margarita.

Monday I went and worked out. I then came home and cleaned up the backyard. My BIL and SIL came over with my nephews and we went back to the pool for a couple of hours. once we got back I put on my Martha Stewart hat and got to cooking. I made baked beans, I grilled some corn and bacon cheddar burgers, cut up a watermelon, and served warm apple pie with some ice cream. The kids enjoyed playing with some bubble guns we got them. We gave the kids a bath before the nephews went home and I passed out.

It was a great weekend and I hope you got to spend some time with your love ones and remember those who served us so we could celebrate this great holiday.

Happy Wednesday!

Half A Year Of Fitness

I know a lot of my readers are more than likely tired of reading about my workouts but I have to say that I am really proud of this journey. I have enjoyed where it has taken me and excited for where it is going to take me.

I was sitting a home a few nights ago looking at pictures on my iPad when I noticed how much I have physically changed in six months. It’s hard to believe it all started with a simple walk on a treadmill.

January rolled around and I decided to start running something I have never done before. I weighed in at a rough looking and feeling 289 back then. I started with a small run of one mile. By the time I was done with the month I was running a solid two miles in 25 minutes.

When February came I reached the three mile mark. I could run a 5k in under 35 minutes. My pants were loose and I was weighing in somewhere in the 260s. My clothes were fitting better and I felt better as a person. I started changing my diet and counting the calories I was eating. That made a huge difference. I even had a killer swim workout that month. Still have a lot more work to do with that.

In March I decided after a dinner with my family to challenge myself a little. The weather was getting warmer and I needed to do something crazy. I decided to run a 5k race. So I began training three days a week for it. Running as hard as I could to get my time down to under thirty minutes. At this point I was about 255 on the scale.

April brought me another curve ball in my way. I was asked to run a 5k at the beach with my brother. I was excited and scared to run my first race. I had been training so hard for my suppose to be first race in May but I just considered this one a practice. I got to the race and ended up finishing third in my age division in 29:25! I was really proud of myself and I even got an award. I also went to my first yoga class and now I love yoga. I even got a mat.

Coming fresh off that win, I knew the month of May was going to better. I started off training really good but then life stuff happened and I became kind of lazy. I was scared u was not going to do good at my next race. I showed up nervous and scared but I ended up beating my time. I came in at 26:51. I was fifth in my age division but I did not care. I proved to myself I could do it.

Since accomplishing me race goal I made some really good choices in June. I bought a bike to try cycling. I started to run more. I even chose my next race which is next year in Charleston, South Carolina. The big 10k known as The Cooper River Bridge Run! I was not weighing in at my lowest which was 228 and I dropped to my third pant size. I thought to myself I am going to reward myself with a crazy adventure. So I decided to go zip-lining. My wife, sister-in-law, and brother-in-law went with me. It was the most scary and greatest thing ever. Also I went on my first hike and really felt relaxed and one with nature. That sounded super lame!

It’s been a crazy life changing year for me. I have learned so much about myself and what it really means to be active. I at least try to be active an hour a day. I do sometimes fall short but I just pick myself up. I honestly believe I would not be able to do this without the support of my amazing wife and daughter. They are the reason I have even started this. They say fatherhood changes a man and I believe that with all my heart.

Now what’s happening for the rest of 2014? Here is what’s happening and coming up!

-Right now I am finishing up my July Crossfit Challenge. If you read the blog regularly you already know how that is going.

-In August and September, you will be seeing a lot more cycling and more weightlifting.

-October is a big month cause I will be starting my training for The Cooper Bridge 10k. Also, more yoga!

That’s just a few things I have planned. I am sure there will be other great stuff. I really want to try a kickboxing class or boot camp. My long term fitness goals is to run a half marathon, a marathon, and then a triathlon before I am 35. I would also like to complete a Spartan Race and a Iron Man. All in good time!

Thanks everyone for being so supportive. I do promise that I have some great new blogs about K-Dub coming so look out for those.

Until next time!

Daddy and Daughter Mondays

One of my favorite days of the week is Monday. A lot of people hate Mondays, but I have come to love them and look forward them every week. Why you ask? Cause its the only day I get to spend alone with K-Dub. I am off work on Mondays and BrittWhitFun still has to go. Also, we give Nanny E that day off so she can get her personal stuff done. So it’s a great time for me to connect with my daughter and really spend some quality time with her.

We use to just hang at the house on Mondays, but now I try to find us a great activity to do either in the morning or in the afternoon. Like I said last week, we go to Storytime at the local library, we go to the park in the neighborhood, or we go swimming like we did this last week. It is just a chance to get out of the house and be around other kids and adults and swap “parent stories”.

I really enjoyed the time we went swimming at the local Aquatic Center. K-Dub loved it when I would hold her on her stomach and move her on top of the water. She would kick her legs and even put her face under the water! She is so brave. I almost freaked out but then calmed down once I saw her laughing and smiling. Her Maw Maw got her a ladybug float and she loved getting in it and hitting the speaking horn. After we got changed and dried off, we grabbed some lunch with Paw Paw and then headed home for a much-needed nap. The nap was for K-Dub and not me, although, I did lay down for about 30 minutes.

Now that winter is almost over, or at least I hope it is, the weather will soon be a lot warmer and we can do other fun activities. We can go one of the local parks, go to the zoo, take a day trip up to the mountains, and we can even go to the new aquarium that is opening up soon. The possibilities are endless. I can’t wait.

On Mondays, I joke around with my wife and tell her that I am a part-time stay at home dad. I am parenting K-Dub, doing the laundry, making dinner, and cleaning the house so my Mondays are super busy. I can’t help but feel that if my situation would allow me to that I would love to be a stay at home dad. I guess it’s because of the fact that when I am at work, I really miss my kid. I also am constantly thinking of all the stuff that I have to do when I get home. Sometimes I feel there is not enough hours in the day. Maybe one day I can reduce my hours at work and stay at home a little more. One day…

For now, I can say that Mondays are the best time for me. I love spending time with my daughter and we are making memories. Thats what I would like to think every parent is trying to do. One day in the future K-Dub will ask me about the times we had off together and I will be able to show her all the pictures and tell her all the stories of what happened on Daddy and Daughter Mondays.
